超アナクロなド演歌「なみだの操」で大ブレイクしながらも、もともとコミックバンドだったことから来るなんともいえない“軽さ”と“明るさ”。これこそが殿キンの持ち味であった。
リーダー・長田あつし氏の尽力もあり、ビクター音源以外にも初期音源（1970年の「競馬ソング／天国と地獄」はクニ河内編曲）、未発表録音など幅広く収められたこのアルバムには、そんな殿キンの、リズムもの、ワールドものなど、一連のヒット曲とはまた違った豊潤な魅力がたっぷりと詰まっている（全員で同時に歌う、ひとりずつ歌うなど、ドリフっぽいアプローチが試みられている楽曲も）。
ブックレットには、わかっている範囲での収録楽曲データ、安田謙一・湯浅学両氏による解説、主な収録楽曲のジャケット写真、歌詞（一部除く）を掲載。

なお、「恋は紅いバラ」「けい子のマンボ」「情熱のルンバ」「AMANOJAKU あまのじゃく」「ブラジル音頭」、そしてスチールギターとウクレレとシンセドラムと（たぶん）三線が一度に鳴っている、まさに音のパラダイスとも呼べそうな「ハワイ音頭」の６曲は『エッセンシャル・ベスト』にも収められているので、お急ぎの方はそちらをどうぞ。
