Jazzの雑誌に、書いた人の名前は思い出せないが「プレーヤーの針を交換すると、必ずこのレコードをかけるJazz喫茶の親爺が・・・・」の行がありまして、自分の行っていた横浜のJazz喫茶（１９６６年頃）も同じように、針の交換後は、このレコードを掛けてました、ビートルズ世代の自分でも、なぜですか？と聞く勇気、雰囲気が有りませんでした、Jazzを解ろうとしてロダンの彫刻のように深刻な顔をして聴いてる人達の前では、とてもとても・・・・きけるものでは、有りませんでした、大枚叩いて、中古のレコードを３５００円で買いまして（当時の月給の約半分です）聴いてみましたが、「ステレオ録音って良いなー音が右左に綺麗に分かれている」だから使用したのだなー、と演奏内容にまでは、思いは行きませんでした。
音楽って、あんな難しい顔をして聴かなければならないの？との理由でJazzから遠ざかってしまいました。
CD化されて、改めて聴いてみると、Jazz喫茶の親爺さんの心が少し解った様な気がします。
演奏メンバーの行はCDのジャケットの内容を見て戴いてもらって、ここでは書きませんが、
個人的には、マイルスのカインドブルーの横に置いといても良いのではと思ってます。
何百回聴いても、肩の凝らない、名演だと思います。
いまだに、音楽を繭をひそめて聴いていた方々の思いは未だに解りません。
Jazzこそリラックスして聴かなきゃと思うのですが。
このCDは手元に置いて損はないです。

超有名ジャズメンには「この一曲」がある。コルトレーンだったら「マイ・フェーバリット・シングス」。マイルスやビル・エヴァンスのように、「この一曲」が複数あるミュージシャンはスーパースター。で、アート・ペッパーは「ベサメ・ムーチョ」などもあるが、やはりこのアルバムの一曲目の「ユード・ビー・ソー・ナイス・・・」だろう。ヘレン・メリルのヴォーカルでのこの曲もいいけど、アルト・サックスでは、このペッパーの一曲で決まりだ。「ストレート・ライフ」など、このアルバムには佳曲も多いが、やはり聴き物は一曲目。情緒的なペッパー、日本人のジャズファンのために生まれてきた。と、夢想したくなる。いつでも聴きたい、いつまでも持っていたい一枚。この値段はうれしい。（松本敏之）

スーパーオーディオではないですが，音は大変いいです。その音質の高さが曲の雰囲気の表現に寄与しています。

演奏も曲目もいいですね。ジャズのとっつきとしての１枚にもいいのではないでしょうか。

ジャズの名盤と言われるものにはとっつきやすいものと，とっつきにくいもの（コアなもの）とがありますが，こういうCDこそ，初めての方に聴いてもらいたいと思います。安いですし。
