このアルバムは、ちあきなおみがビクター時代に放ったオリジナル・アルバム『THREE HUNDREDS CLUB』(1982.7.21)の復刻版です。
初めてのＣＤ化ではありませんが―他のアルバムと一纏めにされて『Another World』(2001.4.21)として発売中―今回の復刻で当時の音源そのままの彼女のジャズを味わうことができるようになりました。音質も良好です。

もう何年も前のことなのでうろ覚えで恐縮ですが、女優の桃井かおりが週刊誌の連載コラムの中で、“ちあきなおみのジャズを聴くと心身ともに安らぐ”といった類のことを語っていましたが、おそらくこのアルバムのことを指しているのでしょう。

唐突ですが、美空ひばりもジャズを歌っています。彼女の歌うジャズは、ちょっと辛口な見方をしますと、ジャズはかくあるべきものといったステロタイプ的なものになっているように思えます。そして世間では、そういったものを上手いと思うようです。
それに比べて、ちあきなおみの場合は、型に嵌めるなんてことは、これっぽっちも考えていないようです。ですから、べき論的な固定観念でもって彼女の歌を聴くと初めは肩透かしを食らったように感じるかもしれません。
でもジャズは、ものに囚われない自由な表現にその本質がある筈です。ちあきなおみという歌手の凄さは、こういった本質を常に見失うことなく、オリジナリティに満ち満ちた歌を創作するところにあるのです。
であるからこそ、その解き放たれた精神に共鳴する私たち聴き手の身も心も癒されるのだろうと思います。
デビュー前に、乗っていたタクシーから流れてきたひばりの歌を“上手いね”と褒めたマネージャに対して、“どこがですかぁ”と聞き返したちあきなおみ。それが中学出立ての頃だというのですから、只々唸るだけです。

ちあきなおみのたゆたうような「朝な夕な」(原曲「UNDER A BLANKET OF BLUE」)、「日曜日は風」(同「FOR SENTIMENTAL REASONS」)、「悪い夢」(同「THESE FOOLISH THINGS」)、そしてちょっとブルージィな「横顔」(同「THAT OLD FEELINGS」)、「愛の形見」(同「GOLDEN EARRINGS」)、どれもこれも素敵です。
