ハリケーン後のニューオーリンズでの録音で、当地ならではの構成や空気が魅力の作品となっています。トランペット等の気品あるミュート奏法と、noonのアフタヌンティーのようなフレーバーとがバランスよく合わさった、非常に心地よい空気感で私は大好きな一枚です。プロデューサーでありトランペット奏者のリロイ・ジョーンズ氏は、全体を彼女の声にそっと寄り添うような優しさで彩っていたような印象を受けました。そのことで更に彼女が楽しく歌っているような。

スタンダードやPOPSの名曲が多くまたニューオーリンズにちなんだ楽曲やリロイ氏が薦めた7等もあり、幅広い層に楽しめる内容ではないでしょうか。4や5の踊るような感覚など今作のニューオーリンズ色が眩しいソウルフルな仕上がりです。一方ベースが素敵な9は一味違いクールにスイングしてます。他方noonの声は3のトロンボーンや7・12のトランペット（この音色が絶妙！）等に非常に綺麗に溶け合うシンクロ性をもっているなあ、とヴォーカル好きの私は思っています。特に素晴らしいのは10のカレンが舞い降りてきたような、しなやかな歌です。是非注目してください。静かに支えるホーン隊もいい黄昏です。最後にたまらないのは泣かせるような繊細な線を引いてゆくトランペットソロの「恋しくて」。最高でした。

多くのジャズ歌手が誕生している中で、続けて4作もアルバムを出し続けていくのは、支持がある、もっと聞きたい、ファンが多い、という要素が多分にあるわけです。音楽的に優れている、というのが一番の要素かも知れませんが。
春風のような軽やかさをもたらす少し鼻にかかったコケティッシュな声は他のアーティストにない魅力ですね。

本アルバムは、ニュー・オーリンズに合わせてオールド・ファッション・ジャズのスタイルのバックを擁し、スウィング・ジャズやそれ以前のデキシーランド・ジャズを彷彿とするようなサウンドでした。

ミュージカルや映画で有名な「マイ・フェア・レディ」から「On The Street Where You Live（君住む街）」は良かったですね。明るくてこのよう軽い曲は、noonの雰囲気に良く合います。
レオン・ラッセルの絶唱とカレン・カーペンターの名唱で名高い「A Song For You」も良い雰囲気を醸し出していました。歌心がないとこのような切々としたバラードは歌いきれません。ボサ・ノヴァに向きそうな声質ですが、軽快なジャズや癒し系のバラードもまた合いますね。

リーフレットに掲載されているニュー・オーリンズの素朴な街並みの写真に写るnoonの表情が、音楽同様のリラックスして自然体でした。

何度も繰り返し聞いているうちに、しみ入ってくる
noonの温かい声が大好きです。

先週購入して、今日やっと開封したのですが、
・・・3時間聴き通しでした。

特に後半の3曲が・・・。
いずれもnoonのものになってます。

アレンジに驚くこと請け合いです。
11曲目などはこんなムードも合うなぁと感心しました。

次のアルバムも楽しみだぁ、なーんて。
でも、結局全部集めてしまうほど、
飽きが来なくてくせになります。
