コブクロ、約8ヶ月ぶりとなる通算14作目のニューシングルは、2007年 1月8日からスタートしたフジテレビ系ドラマ『東京タワーオカンとボクと、時々、オトン』の主題歌です。コブクロがフジテレビドラマの看板枠月9の主題歌を手がけるのは今回が初めてですが、ドラマ主題歌は『ここにしか咲かない花』(日本テレビ系「瑠璃の島」)、『桜』(フジテレビ系「Ns'(ルビ:ナース) あおい」)、『君という名の翼』(テレビ朝日系「レガッタ~君といた永遠」)に続き4作連続となります。リリー・フランキー著による原作本は、母と子、父と子、友情などの普遍的なテーマをリアルに描いて話題となり2006年本屋大賞を受賞、200万部を超える大ベストセラーとなっており、昨年11月18日には大泉洋主演でフジテレビ系にて単発ドラマとして放送され、今年はオダギリジョー主演での映画化も決定、月9枠での連続ドラマも大きな話題を集めています。

コブクロのインディーズ時代に発表した「遠くで…」で、母への想いを歌詞にした小渕健太郎。
あまりにもストレートすぎるこの曲は、感動できる曲だが正直に言って、なにか物足りないような気がしていた。
しかし、今回の「蕾」で彼は再度母への想いを歌にした。
プロとして、そして日本を代表するアーティストとして成長したコブクロ。
亡くなった者への想い、弱い心や人間の感情的な部分を綺麗な歌詞で、メロディーで、歌唱力で伝えてくれる素晴らしい曲になっている。
暖かい曲をありがとう。

『蕾』、『彼方へ』、『風見鶏』と３曲収録されているこのシングル、
ドラマで『蕾』には何度も泣かされました。

が、私が一番待ち遠しかったのは『風見鶏』の音源化でした。
私は元々新しい曲を聴いてもその良さがすぐ分からず、
何度もじっくり聴いて好きな曲を見つける方なんですが
去年のツアーで新曲として発表され初めて聴いた時に
曲の描く風景と歌詞の内容に、「あぁ、これはもうヤバい」と思いました。

夢に向かって頑張る事をためらってる自分の背中を押してくれた曲です。

小渕さんはコブクロの曲をほとんど作詞作曲していますが、何度も彼の歌詞に励まされました。小渕さんが、亡くなられたお母さんを想って作詞作曲したという“蕾”にも、家族や友達や愛する人の大切さを改めて感じさせてくれました。
