昨年出たメセニー＆メルドーのコンビが今度はカルテットで登場!!さすが、今度はカルテットでしかできない曲ばかりを集めたような感じでとてもいいです！レコード店で視聴した時、思わずライブ会場にいるかのような錯覚をしたほどです。「NIGHT AWAY」を筆頭にぐいぐい引き込まれます。特筆すべきは＃2の「The Sound Of Water」。パットが42ストリングス・ギターで弾きまくります。もちろんからんでるメルドーのピアノもかっこいい！今回はアコギの曲は＃4しかありませんが、メルドーの優しいピアノが絡む時はおとなしめにパットも弾いています。
はっきり言って前作よりいい！といえるのではないでしょうか？
尚、これにともなったツアーがありなんと日本にも来るそうです！（もちろんカルテットで来日）　ちなみに9/22〜9/29までです。これは必見ですね！

2005年12月ニューヨーク、ライト・トラック・レコーディング・スタジオにて録音。ブラッド・メルドーとパット・メセニーのコラボ第2作。

メンバー的には『新』ブラッド・メルドー・トリオにパット・メセニーが加わった形になっている。パットにとって自分自身の音楽というのは『パット・メセニー・グループ』の音楽という意識があるだろうから、それ以外は他流試合のようなものだろう。本作はビートルズやレディオヘッドの曲解釈に抜群の切れ味を見せるブラッド・メルドーと一勝負、カルテットでしてみたかったという形かと思う。

それこそ様々な新しいアプローチをお互いに試しているのだが、やはり1『A Night Away』の演奏が凄い。右手左手が別人格のピアノを弾くメルドーとアコースティックなギターで応戦するメセニーは火花を散らそうと言うのではなく、ひたすら新しい音楽的融合を目指しているように感じられる。25回聴いたが新しい発見が毎回あった。素晴らしい演奏だ。
