古典的な題材である透明人間も、ジョン・カーペンター監督の手にかかると、
一味違った素晴らしい作品に様変わりします。
決してホラーっぽい部分もなく、どちらかといえばＳＦコメディに近いでしょうね。
ＳＦＸも駆使されていて、画像もきれいに仕上がっています。

　今やB級映画の帝王としてカルト的な人気を誇るジョン・カーペンター監督だが、本作は珍しくILMが特撮を手がけ、チェビー・チェイスとダリル・ハンナが共演という大作っぽい作りになっている。そのためかいつものグロテスクさやいい意味でのチープさがなく、この程度の出来なら別にカーペンターが監督しなくてもよかったと思う。
　特撮の進歩は凄いし、着ている服も透明になってしまう設定は、いつも裸になっている必要がないグッド・アイデアだったけれど、食物が胃に入っても透明化しないならば便や膀胱内のオシッコも見えるはずじゃないの？とか、まぶたが透明になって眠れないなら目に入った画像も全部後ろへ突き抜けて網膜に映像は写らないから透明人間＝盲目ではないの？といった疑問を逆に感じてしまう。
　細かいことを言えば、自分の手が見えないくて困っていると言いながら、最初からコーヒーカップが上手く持てたり、演出効果とはいえ、逃げる時にあちこちぶつかりすぎだと思う。チェビー・チェイスは上手い役者だと思うけれど、この映画でコメディアンとしてのドタバタぶりが鼻についてしまう。追っ手のCIAが本当に間抜けで、特にサム・ニールは、あんなに独断で大勢の人間を動かせるのに、簡単に透明人間を逃がしてしまいすぎ。（せめて全員がカラースプレーを一本ずつ持っていて透明人間を見つけ次第スプレーすればいいのに）
　サム・ニールも「ジュラシック・パーク」以前はこんな役もやっていたのかと妙に感心してしまったことと、おかしな役を演じる前のダリル・ハンナの美しさを確認できたことで良しとしよう。

邦題のとおり、軽めの内容。
でも、作りとしては結構重いですよ〜と言いたげに感じました。
はじめはよく話が読めなかったのですが、
いい意味でわかりやすいものだったように思います。
最後がそれで良いのか！
と突っ込みたくなるものだったけど、、
娯楽ものとしてはありだと思います。
SFエンターテイメントを気楽に楽しみたい方にお勧めです。
