現在イギリスで熱い注目を集めている音楽の新ムーヴメント「ニュー・レイヴ」の中核をなす新人バンド、クラクソンズ。日本でも、昨年12月の初来日公演はデビュー前にして超満員。また音楽誌で早くも表紙を飾るなど、新人バンドの中では圧倒的な注目度の高さ。デビュー・アルバム『近未来の神話』で、いよいよ彼らの全貌が明らかにされる。

【アーティストについて】
2005年末結成。開始直前にケータイで場所の情報をまわして、学校の体育館でレイヴ・スタイルのライヴを開催し人気を集める。2006年8月にはイギリスのロックの祭典 「レディング・フェスティヴァル 」に出演。フェスのNo.1新人アクトとして全英のプレスが熱狂する中、2007年初頭、デビュー・アルバム『近未来の神話』をリリース。

いやー、実に評価が難しい作品だと思う。
皆様の評価も真っ二つだし。

実際、自分も迷う。

某紙が絶賛していたのを見て聴いてみたが、「ホントにそうか！？」とか思ってしまった。なんで、ここまで注目を集めたのかしら、と。

ただ、何度か聴いて分かったこと。

彼らの音楽は、笑えないのだ。いろんな意味で。

すごくかっこいいフレーズがあるかと思えば、絶望的にクオリティの低い曲があったりする。

コーラスにこめられた祈りはひどく切実に響くし、歪んだ音のベースがなぞるラインは激しい怒りにも似ている。

要するに、こちらを凍らせるのだ。いろんな意味で。

だから、騒ぐ人は騒ぐし、拒絶する人は拒絶する。

僕はと言えば、2曲目とか9曲目は拒絶するけど、1曲目とか5曲目の出来には騒ぎたくなる。

うーん、結局、この作品がとてつもなく奇妙であるという以上のことは言えない。

ただ、一聴の価値はあると思う。それは間違いない。

Dance Rock？いやこんな奇怪な楽曲で踊れたら大したモンだ。
Gravity's Rainbowは音楽なのかすら分からない。
現代ロックを極限まで捻じ曲げ、その狭間から転がり出てきたような、奇妙なトラックがズラリと並ぶ。
ここまで好き嫌いがハッキリ別れるバンドも珍しい…。

「近未来」ねえ･･。どこかで聞いたことあるような感じがして新しいというような･･･。
どこまでかはわかりませんが、過去の曲ばかり聴いてて保守的な人たちには受けが悪そうですね。
今の英国の音楽って、演奏悪くてもセンスよければ売れるような気がします。
今までで売れた保守的なニュアンスばかり追っている日本よりはましだと思いますが。
