井上陽水奥田民生、約10年ぶりとなる待望の2ndアルバム
日本のポップス・シーンの最前線に、唯一無二のアーティストとしていまだ変わることなく立ち続ける井上陽水。かたやロックバンド"ユニコーン" のボーカルとしての活動を経て、1993年のバンド解散後にソロ活動を開始し、日本のロックシーンに不動の地位を築いた奥田民生。音楽ファンはもとより、ミュージシャン・アーティストからも広く愛される存在の二人が、1997年にユニット"井上陽水奥田民生"を結成。シングル『ありがとう』(97年2月13日発売)とアルバム『ショッピング』(97年3月19日発売)をリリース。大ヒットを記録したこのユニットは、当時の音楽シーンで、当然の如く大きな話題となりました。あれからほぼ10年・・・ついに再始動!2006年12月に発売となったシングル『パラレル・ラブ』に引き続き、ついにアルバムをリリース。

作曲に対する作詞の手法、センスが同じ2人。歌詞だけを見れば「アウトバーンの狼」
からして、いきなりニヤついてしまい「砂漠のデザート」はオッサンギャグの域だが
いざ聞いてみれば、のめり込んでしまう。前作「ショッピング」では Dr. Strange Love
が参加しておりギタープレイは主に長田進だったが、本作では主に奥田民生がギタープレイ
を担っているようだ。元々定評ある彼のギターだが、よりシンプルに、より良い演奏を、
という姿勢、音への徹底的な拘り、ライブをはじめとする絶え間なく精力的な活動、
爆音ハムバッカーからシングルコイル系への嗜好の変化も相まって、相変わらず音が良い、
というより、また良くなった、という強い印象を受ける。そして衰えることのない井上陽水。
「砂漠のデザート」「南国の雪」(井上)、「HIROSHIMA」「パスタ・セレナーデ」
「羽飾りMOKKO」(奥田)と、2人の片方がボーカルを取る曲もある。
Bass小原礼、Kb.斉藤有太、Dr.沼澤尚、バックボーカルに松雪泰子、Leyona、つじあやの、
ギターに佐藤タイジ、スカパラホーンと、ゲストも豪華だが、見事に馴染んでいる。

このユニットの前作「ショッピング」も、かなりあちらこちらへきらめきが飛び出しているようなアルバムでしたが、今回のもかなり。
あっちで光ったかと思うとこっちでピカピカ、というような。
本人たちが大いに楽しんで余裕をもって作ったり歌ったり演奏しているおおらかな気分がこちらにも伝わってくるからかなと思いました。
各曲に作詞作曲は書いていないので、井上陽水奥田民生がとにかく出したアルバムなんだ、という気概もそこはかとなく感じます。（気概、というとこの2人はちょっと力強すぎる表現ですが。）

「パラレル・ラブ」、「京都に電話して」あたりがこのユニットの真骨頂楽曲でしょうか。陽水でもなく奥田民生全開でもなく、この2人の化学反応でできる曲かなあと思います。
全曲化学反応とみるべきなんでしょうが、曲によって血中陽水度や民生度の濃度はもちろんあるわけで、濃度の濃い方を薄いと思われる方があえてボーカルをとっていたりするのはさしずめコスプレを見ているようで楽しいです。

「砂漠のデザート」は「月の砂漠」や「蛍の光」のボーカルを想起させるような陽水のボーカルがそこにあります。ほんとにきれいなしっとりした曲なんですが、詞の世界が思いがけない感じといいましょうか、「灰色の指先」なんていう彼の曲を思い出してしまいました。
バックに「ぽくぽく・・・」というラクダの足音っぽい音が効果音で入っていたり（奥田民生が担当？）やっぱり今更ながらこの二人は一筋縄ではいかないな。

まさか再びこの組合せがみられるとは驚きです
マイペースな二人らしい決断だと思いました
楽曲も適度に力が抜けていて、これぞ自然体って感じでしょうか？
何かと忙しく日常を過ごしている我々
たまにはこのアルバムでも聴いてマイペースになりましょう
