　ピアニストのケンプ、ヴァイオリニストのシェリング、チェリストのフルニエ、この三者が作り出す音楽は格調高く、気高い気品という共通点がある。この三者の組み合わせは、ベートーヴェン屈指の名曲、ピアノ三重奏曲「大公」の演奏に最もふさわしいのではなかろうか。丁々発止でもなく、各々が独自の主張をするのでもない。三人が同じベクトルを持ち、互いに寄り添ってこの美しい曲を紡いでいく。雄大な第一楽章、高雅な第三楽章は殊に素晴らしい。このような、私たちの心に深く染み入る気高いヒューマニズムを湛えた演奏は現代ではなかなか聴かれなくなってしまった。
　初演時にこの曲を聴いた献呈者であるルドルフ大公はいたく感動したそうである。私もこの演奏を聴いて、深く感動すると共に、安らかで充実した気持ちになった。音楽の偉大な力を改めて考えさせるものである。
