5.0 out of 5 stars 私の大好きな３大ミュージカルの最高傑作！見なきゃ後悔しますよ！, 2009/6/24
実はこのお話バーナード・ショウが書いた「ピグマリオン」という戯曲がもとである。最終的にはヒギンズ教授とイライザは結婚するのだが、映画ではあの終り方で充分事足りていて、気持ちの良い幕切れである。ジュリー・アンドリュースが最初この役をやるはずだったが、カメラテストを拒んで怒ったジュリーは降板してしまい、オードリーになったのだが、全体を見渡してみれば、彼女で大正解だったといえる。この撮影に対して、オードリーの徹底振りは凄まじい。どうせやるならと顔に泥を塗ったくるわ、奇声を発するわ、奇行を重ねるわで、最初に観たときは途中でうるさくて観るのを止めようかと思ったくらいである。それであんな美女がこの世に出現するのか!?　おまけに当人２０歳の役を３７歳で務めたんだから仰天してしまう。それもすごいが、周りを取り囲む人たちの見事なこと！ヒギンズ教授役のレックス・ハリスンの果たして歌なのか演説なのか解からない歌は、なぜか変じゃない。あの人しかできないマネをしているし、フレディ役のジェレミー・ブレッドのカッコよさといったら、まあ、なんて綺麗な整った顔をしているのかしらと、思ったものの、実は今は「シャーロック・ホームズ全集」のなんとホームズ役である。シャーロキアンの私としては嬉しい。月並みなシンデレラ・ストーリーではなく、ピッカリング大佐との言葉の研究論などは、まさしくホームズの原点を見出すことができるし、時代も丁度同じくらいなのがフレディ役のブレッドもホームズ役には思い入れがあるのではないかと思う。また、イライザの親父さんも良い味を出している。残念なことにあの映画を収録後数年後に亡くなってしまったのが悔やまれる。タップダンスのシーンでは足がほとんど動かせない状態になっているのを見れば解かるだろう。またコックニーやキングスイングリッシュの使い分けは見事にされているのもすごい。そして何よりも名曲の宝庫！どれも歌えるようになるまで見続けてしまった。ただひとつ胸を刺す"You've Got Did It!"の嵐の後、ヒギンズ教授に対して「やったのは私よ！」とイライザが嗚咽する場面であった。努力した者の一番、褒められてしかるべき場で、彼女の気持ちを汲んだ人がひとりもいなかったという、あまりにも胸を締め付けられる場面がずっしりと心に響いた。いずれにしても私にとってこの作品は不朽の名作であることは間違いない。

原作戯曲「ピグマリオン」が面白かったので、見てみた。
見る前から、嫌な予感。ヘプバーンが苦手、ミュージカルが苦手、3時間近くある、と。

しかし、もっと退屈すると思ったらそうでもなかった。しかし、原作読んでなかったら、ストーリーを追う気にもならなかったろうな。花売り娘とか言語学者というキャラがあまりうまく映像化されてないように思えるし、イライザが変貌したように見えないのが難点。

競馬場のシーンは、上流階級の人たちが皆モノトーンの服を着てるのが、ひんやりした雰囲気で、非凡なセンスを感じさせた。

Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison) who specializes in the English language makes a bet with Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde-White) that he can take someone who speaks with a lower-class language and by correcting the speech can pass off as upper-class or royalty. Overhearing this bet is a flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn); she wants to work a flower stand. But they will not take her unless she can speak more “genteel”. Professor Higgins takes up the challenge.
Will he succeed?
What does her father (Stanley Holloway) thing finding that she moved in whit the two professors and did not want any clothes?

This is a musical version of the movie Pygmalion (1938), based on a play by George Bernard Shaw.

As people find that music and movies bring memories of the time in which they heard or viewed it. His movie has a meaning to me as I too was in love and found my self singing “On the street where you live.” One of the strengths of the movie is that many of the songs instead of being classical and just stuffed into at odd times actually are songs that you would initiate in your life and they did so in the lives of the characters in the movie.
