<ストーリー>
パリ・オリンピック陸上短距離で祖国イギリスに金メダルをもたらした2人の若者がいた。ユダヤの血をひいている為、言われなき差別と偏見を受けてきたハロルド。彼にとって走ることは偏見に勝利することであった。一方、宣教師の家に生まれたエリックは神のため、信仰のため走った……。

ヴァンゲリス作曲の有名な美しいテーマ音楽に乗り、海辺を走る若者たちの、幻想的で、そして限りなく美しい光景で映画は幕をあけます。

1924年のパリ五輪での英国の陸上短距離代表となった、神に愛されたふたりのランナーの感動的なものがたり。

ハロルドは、ユダヤ人としての誇りのもとに、そして神父をめざすエリックはまさに神の愛を表現するために、それぞれ自分の信念と情熱のために、最善をつくして、走るのです。五輪シーンを中心とした終盤はもう怒涛の興奮と感動の連続です。劇場でも涙がでてきたのをおもいだします。泣ける映画、でもあるのです。

ふたりのバックグラウンドには大きな差があるのですが、ともに汗と涙をながしてゆくうちに、ライバル心や闘いをはるかに超越した、人間的な友情と強い絆がふたりには生まれるのです。

これは永遠の名作であり、映画史に残るスポーツ・ヒューマンドラマの最高峰です。何度見ても、胸に深い感動が沸きおこってくるのです。この感動作を、まだみてないかたに、ぜひ、おすすめです。
