内容紹介

豪華客船で偶然逢ったプレイボーイな男と女性歌手の痛快なラブストーリー。船の中、男(シャルル・ボワイエ)と女(アイリーン・ダン)は出会った。二人は、エンパイヤステートビルの展望台で再会の約束をして別れるのだが・・。「エンパイヤステートビルで逢いましょう。天国に一番近い所よ。」など、映画の中ではオシャレな台詞が散りばめられ、なかなかうまくいかない二人の恋の行方はラストまでハラハラさせられます。このレオ・マッケリーが製作監督した恋愛ドラマは、当時原題のLoveAffairが風紀上よろしくないというので、わざわざ日本版の題名をSincerityに改題したという話もあり…なおマッケリーは戦後の1957年にケーリー・グラント、デボラ・カー主演で再映画化し、「めぐり逢い(1957)」の題名で日本でも公開されている。

5.0 out of 5 stars 愛を知り尽くした大人のラブ・ストーリー, 2008/7/2
後に何度もリメイクされるということは、前作がヒットしたことで、
さらに良い撮影技術、人気キャストを現在に置き換えて製作されることが多い。

私をはじめ、先に1957年『めぐり逢い』を観てから、オリジナル作に戻って
観ると、どうしても映像が色褪せて出来が良くないという印象はあります。

しかし、リメイク作がオリジナル作を超える出来だったかというと、決して
そうではありません。監督はもちろん同じレオ・マッケリーなのに、
オリジナル作を超えられなかった理由として、アイリーン・ダンの存在が
大きいようです。デボラ・カーもすばらしかったが、当時40歳を超えて
いるとは思えない魅力で歌手テリー・マッケイ役を完全に自分のモノにしていた。
アイリーンの歌の上手さは、当時、すでに広く知れ渡っていました。
その辺りもデボラがアイリーンを超えられなかったところではないでしょうか。

共演のシャルル・ボワイエとは同年『最後の抱擁』でも共演しているが、40年前後に
アイリーンはケイリー・グラントとコンビを組んで3本を共演している。

やはり、この作品のテーマソングともいえる『Plaisir D'Amour（愛の喜び）』が
涙を誘いますね。とても素敵なフランスのラブソングです。

4.0 out of 5 stars 作品自体はまずまず、画質はひどい, 2008/4/30
実は1939年のアカデミー作品賞にノミネートされた作品です。残念ながら、作品賞を受賞することはできませんでした。
何しろ、同年の受賞作は「風と共に去りぬ」ですし、他に「スミス都へ行く」や「嵐が丘」、「オズの魔法使い」などもノミネートされたハイレベルな年ですから、やむを得ないことでしょう。

作品自体のプロットは非常に単純です。
お互い婚約者と彼氏がいる男と女一組が船上で惹かれあい、意気投合して、結婚を約束するという話です。
再会を約束した日に、女は事故に遭い、歩けなくなってしまいます。
男は約束を破られ、悲痛な思いを持ちつつも、画家として成功し、女を捜し出します。
あの日の理由を聞くために...。

最近のテレビドラマや映画では考えられないくらいシンプルでちょっと鼻につくストーリーではありますが、
これも当時のセクシャル・アナーキー的な風潮や男女の恋愛作品のはやりを鑑みると、
まあ致し方ないことでしょう。

作品自体はまずまず見る価値はあると思うのですが、（87分と非常に短いですし）
とにかく画質が悪いです。
同年の「スミス都へ行く」あたりと比べてもよくないので、そこは我慢が必要です。
ということで星4つにしました。

その後、数回にわたりリメイクされている名作ではあるので、
或る程度の映画ファンならば見ておく必要はあると思います。

主人公達のおりなす恋模様は、互いに恋人がいながらも貫く、どこか悲しいもので、再会の約束も突然のアクシデントで、実現される事がなく、どうなるのかと、ハラハラしながら観ていたのだが、最後には、お互いに事実を知らされ、心が通じることになり、本当にハッピーエンドで良かったと感じた。途中、アイリーン・ダンが子供達に歌の指導をする場面があるのだが、何となく、｢サウンド・オブ・ミュージック」の、ジュリー・アンドリュースを思わせるような感じだ。結末は、こみあげてくるものがあり、とても感動した。素晴らしい名作と言えるだろう。
