内容紹介

アントニオは長い失業のすえ、ようやく映画のポスター貼りの仕事を得た。仕事に必要な自転車を質屋から請け出すために彼はシーツを質に入れた。六歳の息子ブルーノを自転車に乗せ、彼はポスターを貼ってまわった。ところがちょっとしたすきに自転車が盗まれてしまった。自転車がなければまた失業だ。アントニオは無駄とはわかっていても警察に行った。毎日何千台も盗まれている時だ、警察は相手にしてくれない。こうしてアントニオ親子の自転車探しがはじまった。ローマの朝早く、2人は古自転車の市場に行った。ここで泥棒らしき男に会うが、証拠がない。その男と話していた乞食の跡をつけるが、乞食も逃げ出す。途方にくれて女占い師を訪ねるが、もちろんなんの答えもでない。いらいらしてついブルーノにあたってしまう。偶然泥棒を発見したが、かえって仲間にやられそうになる。ブルーノの機転で警官が来るが、肝心の自転車はなかった…。

1948年のイタリア映画です。
このあたりの名作の例に漏れず、この作品も戦争（敗戦後）が舞台設定になっています。

主なプロットとしては、自転車を盗まれた父親（アントニオ）と息子（ブルーノ）の親子の絆を描いていますが、何といっても最後の場面が印象に残ります。
アントニオは息子の前で、人間としての尊厳を失う行為を行ってしまい、
またその息子によって、かろうじて救われるという、父親として本当に辛い終局を迎えます。

しかし、その原因となっているのは、貧しさであり、戦争であったと、暗に訴えかけているのは間違いのないところです。
レストランでの食事場面では、一握りの金持ちたちが食事しているところをまざまざと見せつけられ、息子に惨めな思いをさせてしまいます。

このような状況に陥り、最後の行動に出てしまうアントニオに罪があるのでしょうか。
また、アントニオは職業安定所で市役所の仕事がもらえた分、幸せであるといえます。
他にもっと苦しい生活を送る人々が大勢いたのだろうと予想できます。

一度見れば、おそらく一生忘れることのない印象に残る作品です。
見たことのない方は、是非見てみてください。お薦めです。

自転車を盗まれ職を失いそうになる男アントニオは必死で自転車を探しますが
見つからないそしてラストの自転車を盗んでしまうシーン　男は殴られます
なんという理不尽　悪が特をしなぜ善良な人が痛い目にあわなければいけないのか
男の心の痛みが見事に伝わってきました　そして最後の幕切れの見事なこと
たとえお金がなくても一生懸命に生きていく人を描いた見事な名作　モノクロの映像も綺麗でした
