内容紹介

大銀行家アンドルースの娘エリーは、頑固な父の承諾を得ずに飛行家キング・ウェストリーと婚約したために、マイアミ港外でヨットに監禁される。彼女は海に跳び込んで逃げ、キングのいるニューヨークへ向かうべく人目を忍び夜間バスに乗る。そこでエリーは、失業中の新聞記者ピーター・ウォーンと出会う。娘を心配したアンドルースは、1万ドルの懸賞金付きで行方を捜索させる。しかしピーターは1万ドルを手にしようともせず、彼女とのバス旅行を続けていく。苦楽をともに遂にニューヨーク郊外まで来た2人はお互いに惹かれ合う仲となっていた…。そこで、エリーは父が出した結婚を許可するから居場所を知らせよ、という新聞広告を目にする。ピーターに自分の想いを打ち明けるエリー。だがピーターは無一文では億万長者の娘に結婚を申し込む訳にゆかぬと、エリーの眠るのを待ってひとり抜け出してニューヨークへ、そこで2人の旅行記を新聞社に売り、急ぎ引き返す。置きざりにされたと思い、父に連絡してしまうエリーそして…

７０年以上前の白黒映画、ということだけで見る気が失せる人も多いでしょう。
チャップリンもオードリー・ヘップバーンも出てきませんしね。
しかし『ローマの休日』を観てこれを観ないのはあまりにもったいなさすぎる、
と私は思います。この『或る夜の出来事』は『ローマの休日』よりはるかに面白
い、最高のロマンティックコメディなのですから。

ストーリーは単純で、ある富豪の娘（クローデット・コルベール）が父親に結婚
を反対されたことに腹を立て、家出し、バスの旅の中で出会った新聞記者（クラ
ーク・ゲーブル）とお互い反発し合いながらも次第に惹かれあっていく、という
ものです。
まさにロマコメの典型的パターンですが、その王道パターンを作ったのがこの
作品ということですね。

古き良きアメリカを感じる作品で、現代の映画のような殺伐としたシーンも、
露骨なベッドシーンも一切ありません。ロマコメなのに主人公の男女のキスシ
ーンすらないというのは、時代を感じますね。ニューシネマパラダイスという
映画では、キスシーンすらみだらだとカットするシーンがありましたが、そう
いう時代もあったのでしょう。

主演の二人ですが、クラーク・ゲーブルは知ってますよね？言わずと知れたあの
『風と共に去りぬ』のレット・バトラー役の俳優です。ヒロイン役のクローデッ
ト・コルベールはフランス出身の女優で、アメリカ出身の女優にはない子供っぽ
いかわいらしさが魅力です。
この二人の相性が抜群に良く、そして脇役たちも皆楽しくて温かいです。

映画の価値は新しいことでも、色がついていることでもありません。古くても
最高に楽しく、幸せなこの映画を、どうか皆さん観てください！

金持ちのとんだじゃじゃ馬令嬢を女優のクローゼット　コルベールが、彼女を連れ戻し、懸賞金を手に入れようとする若き新聞記者を若きクラーク　ゲイブルが演じた名作、ヒッチハイクをするのにクローゼットがスカートをあげてその美脚を披露をし、ワイシャツを脱いだクラークが下に何も着ていなかったなど話題が満載だったこの作品、白黒映画ながら脚本が実に見事、お金目当てではなく、真剣に自分を心配してくれていた事を知り彼女が彼を追いかける、感動の名作に仕上がっています、文句なしにお勧めですよ。

　おもしろい場面もいろいろあった。たとえば、ピーターがヒッチハイクで車を止める方法を試すのだがうまくいかないとか、エリーが脚をみせて一発で成功するとか。車に乗せてくれた男の歌もよかった。それが実は泥棒だったなんて、おもしろい工夫だった。
　フランク・キャプラらしい好感度の高い作品だ。しかし、作品の評価としては平均点ではないか。残念ながらドタバタが過ぎたようだ。ストーリーは見ればすぐにわかる。途中でいろいろあっても最後は落ち着くところに落ち着く。しかし、エリーとキングの結婚式まで話を引っ張っていくとは思わなかった。もうすこしスッキリさせれば上々のコメディになっていたと思う。
