とうとう出ますか。１９６８年１月２日ー４日、つまりwalkersの解散後に大阪のフェスティヴァル・ホールで録音されたwalkersのライヴ盤です。といっても中身は、garyやjohnのソロ作品もおそらく含まれているはずです。どうしてこんな時間の逆転現象が起こったか、それはいつもながらお金です。スコット自身ある場所で、”あまりにもいいギャラが提示されたので抵抗できなかった”とまで言い切っているほどです。どうせ仕事のないクリスマスの期間を犠牲にすることで、相当の金銭的なリターンが期待できたのであれば、ちょっとぐらいの不都合は無視するという程度のprofessionalismは当時のスコットにはまだ残っていたのでしょう。海賊盤のディスクでは９０年代後半に海外で出回っていたようですが、正規な形で発売されるのは、１９７４年のcompilationアルバム以来ですね。そのときも含まれていたのは、いくつかのカヴァー作品(hold on, yesterday等）の部分だけで、walkersのヒット曲の部分自体は発売されていません。今年出版されたscott本”rhythme of goodbye　（５４ページ）"でも、このディスクの資料的な価値は別として、中身については、録音状態、バックバンドとの調整不足、そしてスコット自身のライヴでのしらけ方なども含めて、厳しい突き放した評価がなされていました。おそらく実態はその通りなんでしょう。でもそんな事情やライヴでのコメントの背景には疎かった”極東”のファンにとってはおそらく忘れられない一瞬だったのでしょうね。

最早時代も時代、レコードでしか聴けないと思っていたアルバムがCD化される事はうれしい事です。私はこのコンサート自体は当時のニュース映像で少し見た程度ですが、70年代に入った後年に彼等を再認識してレコードを買った程度のオールド･ファンです。
やはり日本での人気を象徴したアルバムで、その背景はとにかく、貴重な音源である事は事実でしょう。演奏技術に関しては当時の事ゆえ、ややスカスカな感じがしますが、あるいは録音設備の問題なのかは判らんですが、ヒット曲がLive録音されている事は当時を知る者にとっては懐かしい。おまけに最後に日本のファンに対するメッセージが付いている（CDにあるか否かは判らないが)のも時代を感じさせる微笑ましさがある。
60年代後半、日本のポップス･ファン達を興奮の渦に開きこんだ伝説のグループのLive復活、それだけで十分ではないか。
