ロック・オペラという聞きなれないカテゴライズ、おどろおどろしいアルバムジャケット、その正体はずんぐりむっくりの親父ROCKER!　でも、聞けばわかります。なぜこの人が約30年にわたり欧米で支持されているかが！！　80年代が青春真っ盛りだった人、その８０’ｓを聞いている若い方達、きっと気に入りますよ。特に、良い意味で大げさに盛り上がるタイプの楽曲が好きな方ハマリますよ〜。何たって、プロデューサーはデスモンド チャイルドとジム スタイマンですから・・・。ついでに、オスカー助演女優ジェニファー ハドソンがfeatureされてたりします。

世界中で売れているアーティストなのに日本では無名に近いミートローフ…。日本では名前とその容姿で敬遠されている気がするが、イメージからは想像もつかないほどカッコいいアーティストだ。デスモンド・チャイルドがプロデュースで参加した今作は、クイーンのブライアン・メイや超絶ギタリスト スティーヴ・ヴァイも参加した豪華で壮大なハードロックアルバム。どの楽曲も出来が良く全１４曲で７７分もあるのに飽きさせない作りはさすがとしか言いようがない。ミートローフという名前とアルバムタイトル、ＣＤジャケット等の偏見を捨ててぜひ聴いてもらいたい１枚だ。なお、ＤＶＤにはデスモンド・チャイルド本人がアルバムについて語っている…。感激した！

J・スタインマンの関与は大幅に減退したが、作品のクォリティは"BAT OUT OF HELL"の名を冠するに値する大傑作だ。とにかく楽曲の全てが素晴らしいのだ。

前2作は作曲者のスタインマンが元来ピアノ奏者であるということもあってか、楽曲の焦点がヴォーカルとピアノにばかり向けられていた感があったが、今回はデズモンド・チャイルドがそれこそドラム・フィルに至るまで、フックを持たせられるようにアレンジを施したような印象を受ける。

また、オープニング曲にしても、これまでは華麗でドラマチックな音世界が冒頭から迫ってきたが、今回はパワフルにロックしていると感じた。実際、全ての曲にドラムが入っており、全14曲、つなぎや捨て曲の類はなく、それぞれが独立して聴かせどころを作っている。

もちろん劇的な音世界も健在で、2をはじめ、サビの歌メロからして感動的で、涙が出そうになる。
