内容紹介

ジャングル映画の製作者、カール・デナムは、ノルウエーの船長が書き表した航海記を読み、ある野望を抱いていた。「前代未聞、最高の映画を作ってやる」その航海記によれば、スマトラの西に海図にない島があり、そこにはコングというとてつもない巨大な生物がいるというものだった。デナムは、航海に先立ち、町で出会った美女、アン・ダローが気に入り、「君に主役をやる」と約束した。不安と期待に胸をふくらませるアン。そして、霧の中に骸骨山のある島でとてつもなく凶暴で巨大なコングと遭遇するのだった。初めは想像を絶するモンスターでしかなかったキングコングは、やがて恐竜をも打ち倒す動物ヒーローに、アンを握りしめ大都会を闊歩コング、高架を走る電車を叩き落し、アンを掴んだまま、エンパイアステートビルをよじ登っていく。とうとう、コングは天辺へ…。

ドクロの形をした山のある孤島で平和に暮らすコングが、猛獣映画の撮影隊に捕獲され見世物としてニューヨークに登場。壮絶な戦いの末、命を落とすまでを描く、１９３３年製作・『メリアン・Ｃ・クーパー監督/他』の傑作・秘境冒険ＳＦＸ映画。
美女アン（主演：フェイ・レイ）を片手にエンパイアステートビルディングの頂上で、複葉機の容赦のない機銃掃射の攻撃に苦痛の悲鳴を上げ、それでも必死に抵抗するコングと複葉機の特撮場面・自分の命と引き換えに美女アンを解放する感動の場面・ビルの頂上から落下し地上に横たわるコングの寂しげな目と心臓の鼓動の音が停止する場面などには悲壮感を感じます。
また、実写と合成したコングや恐竜の特撮シーン・原住民が作った大きな城壁・ジャングルの秘境・ニューヨークの大都会などの背景に至るまで緻密な迫力あるシーンは、１９３３年（昭和８年）に製作したとは思えないほど、すばらしいと思うが・・・・・。
ユーモアとセンスがあり、人間の欲と身勝手さの犠牲になった、憎めない「キングコング」に冥福を祈ります。

言うまでもない元祖キングコング。ピータージャクソン版もいいけれど、元祖の方もすごくいい演技してます。特技のオブライエンは実在の古生物の忠実な復元を目指していたそうで、どくろ島の怪物たちは、適当に作った物ではないとのこと。出来や状態は当時なりだけど、登場するのはどの恐竜か、一体一体よく見てみるのも楽しいかも。ＰＪ版と同様、あるいはそれ以上に、島に着くまでが冗漫な感があるので、その辺は耐えてくださいね。

大怪獣映画の金字塔的作品この映画は抜群に面白い　この映画の恐怖はコングが人を殺すこと
じゃない　コングが都会に行く見世物にされる挙句の果てに殺される　残酷だねぇ
悪いのはコングじゃないんだと　兵器ばかり持って傷つけ合う人間なんだという社会批判が
見事なほどよく出てますね　怪獣の動きがもの凄く大迫力　娯楽に収まらない傑作ですね。
