マリオの次に有名な任天堂のキャラクター、カービィ。ピンク色で丸くてかわいくて、それでいて、敵の技をコピーして変身するという、強力な能力を持っている。その魅力を存分に味わえるアクションゲームが本作。基本は十字キーとふたつのボタンで操作。まるでゲームボーイ版のときと同じように、仕掛けをときながら、吸って吐いて、ぴょんぴょんとジャンプで越えていく。うん、これは基本だよね。
ニンテンドーDSらしいプレイは、敵を吸って、手に入れたコピー能力をタッチパネルで選べること。このコピー能力を貯めておいて、タッチパネルを使って、かき混ぜれば新しい能力を生み出せるという仕掛けも用意されている。カービィシリーズを遊んできたファンにとっては、目新しい驚きは少ないかもしれないけど、カービィを知らない人にこそ、味わってほしい、アクションゲームの醍醐味の塊なのだ。
