マッキーがソニーに移籍して初めてリリースされたアルバムです。ワーナーにいた頃とは違ってこの頃から彼のアルバムはセルフ・プロデュースになります。

ワーナーの頃は比較的、統一された世界観みたいなのが感じられましたが、この頃からは彼の意思はちょっとは反映されていったのかなぁ。結果的にはレコード会社からはセールスを要求されて、マッキーは苦しめられてしまいましたが…

まだこの頃はそういうことよりかは、楽しい感じのものや暖かみ溢れる曲が多いです。

「Fan Club Song」はかけ声やコーラスが楽しいし、事件が起こった時はとやかく言われましたが、それとは関係なく「印度式」は面白いし。今のマッキーからはちょっと想像つかないかも(笑)。

そして、これらの曲とは対をなして「うたたね」は穏やかで、タイトル・ナンバーの終わり方もそうです。

「素直」と「情熱」はアルバム・バージョンです。「素直」はシングルではピアノとボーカルのみですが、ここではバンド・サウンドっぽくなってます。

「手をつないで帰ろ」は当時マッキーがラジオで語ったいたけど、関西弁が歌詞に入った初めての歌じゃなかったかな。実際に出てくるのは一節だけですけどね。最近だと「LIFE IN DOWNTOWN」の「尼崎の夜空を〜」っていうのがそんな感じです。

全体的に暖かみが感じられるアルバムです。最近は広義な意味での愛を歌ったものが多いけど、まだこの頃はラブ・ソングが多いですね。一番声が高かった頃かも(笑)マッキーの歌声が若いです。
