UKのバンドブームは凄まじいものがあるが、いい意味でThe Viewはそこから浮いている。間違ってもスタイリッシュとか最先端とか、ニューウェーヴとかニューレイヴとか(くどい?)とは一線を引いて、ただただロックバンドとして堂々と存在しているから。1曲めのイントロ前、アンプがジーって息をしていて、素朴なぐらいパンチのあるカイルのボーカルが聴こえると、今が何年なのか不明になってしまう。これってThe Who?それともオアシスのティーンエイジャー時代のデモか何か? そんな想像をしてしまう、レベルミュージックとしてのロックンロ―ルのサウンドを、この2007年に発してしまう天性。ポーグス的な粗野なフォーキィさや、スカのレベルミュージックな側面が好きな人にも響くに違いない。(石角友香)

2007 debut by the Dundonian four piece, produced by Owen Morris (The Verve/Oasis). The album was recorded in rural Yorkshire in two weeks during May of 2006 and features the singles 'Same Jeans', 'Wasted Little DJs' and 'Superstar Tradesman'. 14 tracks. Columbia.

ここまでキラキラしたアルバムは,自分の中では本当にTHE LIBERTINES以来かも。
捨て曲はなく,キラーチューンばかり。歌詞に目を通してみても共感できる部分が多々あり,聴く者の日頃の鬱憤までも晴らしてくれる,素晴らしいセンスの持ち主だ。
なんか最近むしゃくしゃする〜・・・って人は一度聴いてみて決して損はないと思う。

２ndに期待しての星４つです。

各新人バンドが個性を出すために必死になっていたが為に、
いつの間にかぽっかり空いていた「真ん中」。
そこを4日連続のジーパンを穿いて登場し、裸足でアークティックを追撃する期待の新星、ザ・ビュー。

輸入盤の方ですが一通り聴きました。

雑感としては確かに前評判通り「オアシス・ミーツ・リバティーンズ」だな、とゆう印象でしたが、
オアシスほど曲が書けている訳でもなく、リバティーンズほどの性急感がある訳でもないです。
さらに言えば、「フックが効いている」とゆっても、
スロットの目の様にめまぐるしくギアチェンジするアークティックに比べれば可愛らしいもので、
結論を言えば全てが未完成。
現時点では★★★以上は付けられないのが正直なところです。


と、冷静に分析してますが、シングルのM2やM8の奥行きのある疾走感、
M5、M6、M7、M11のミドルナンバーに見られるハッとするようなメロディセンスにはついつい期待しちゃいます。

異常なほどシリアスなロックを貫くアークティックに対して、
「そんなに力むなよ(笑)」とでも言いたそうなラフなポップ感が今っぽい。
伸びしろを怖いくらいに残した青さが何よりの救いですね。
次作で化けて欲しい。

ポストリバティーンズとか、ハイプ扱いされがちなUK新人バンドですが、基本的にポップでメロディアスな、ロックというよりは良質なポップス的な、いい意味でアイドル的な爽やかさを感じます。
たぶんリバやアークティック・モンキーズが好きな人には物足りないんじゃないかと思います。というのはロック的なグルーヴとか焦燥感みたいなものはあまり感じられなくて、もっと陽気なスキップしたくなるようなハッピーな雰囲気のポップネスがこのバンドの良さなんだと思うんですよね。
暖かい陽の下を散歩しながら聴くにはとてもいいと思いますよ。それからやっぱり若い子たちのための音楽だと思うんで、青春真っ只中の中学生・高校生におすすめしたい１枚ですね。
