ＯＶＡ版ゲッターロボ最初の作品であり、各シリーズに繋がりはないものの、
その根底に共通して流れる石川テイスト「狂気といえるほどの熱いテンション」
を最も強く描写してくれたのも本作だったように思います。
第一話で早乙女博士に銃を突きつけ石川英郎氏が演ずる流竜馬が叫びます。
「俺は世界やそのカプセルの中身がどうなろうと知ったこっちゃねぇんだ！」
ＴＶシリーズでは再現できなかったダーティーヒーローぶりがゲッターロボＧ軍団相手に
旧ゲッター1で戦う猛者ぶりと重なって強烈なインパクトを残しました。
一応、本作の主役は號なんですが後の作品で流竜馬＝石川英郎氏が定着するのも納得。
ただ竜馬不在の中盤、作画やテンションがダウンの時期があるのが本作の残念な所です。
（この辺がマイナスポイント）
当時のサントラ、ドラマＣＤが付属なのは好感。

すさまじいまでの作画、スピード感や迫力のあるカットで繰り広げられるすばらしい戦闘シーン、熱く刺激的なストーリー展開そんなすばらしい作品でした。３話までは。
しかし３話までと４話以降で監督が変わったらしく、「熱い」という点ではその流れを引き継いでいますが、作画レベルの低下、戦闘シーンでのスピード感、迫力のなさが見ていてとても気になりました。特に作画に関してはところどころで作画崩壊があるなどOVAとしてはどうなのだろう、と思うところもあります。
通しで見たために１〜３話が良すぎ４話以降がしょぼく見えてしまったのかもしれません。作品内での質の違いを気にせず見たい方は３話までとそれ以降で少し時間を空けて見るというのもいいかもしれません。
☆２つになってしまいましたが１〜３話までは☆５つであり、一見の価値ありです。
