　公開時には、職人気質のコッポラらしくぎりぎりまで手を入れていたため、公開日が迫ってもろくに情報が出てこなかったこともあって、あまり人気が出なかったのですが、構成、画像処理、演技そのどれもが完成度が高く、悲劇、エロス、恐怖、いずれもが渾然一体となって忘れられない作品です。
　特に冒頭の影絵風の導入部は、簡単な技法も使い方によれば劇的な効果を上げられるという格好の見本。
　ただ、演技としては、アンソニー・ホプキンスの狂気迫る怪演が完全にドラキュラを食ってしまい、どっちが悪魔に呪われているのかわかりません。どうみても、十字架をおびえなきゃならないのはホプキンスだと思う。
