以前から見てみたいと思いつつ、チャンスを逸し続けてきましたが、今回のＤＶＤ発売でやっと見ることができました。
漫画で読んでいるから、ストーリーは分かっているのに、吸い寄せられるように見てしまいました。
映像は、私が漫画を読みながら想像するより、飛行機はより速く飛び、涙はより悲しく光り、血と炎はより赤く痛々しく映りました。
戦死した人達へのレクイエムと同時に描かれる、死を目前にしても、その命に夢や憧れを重ね合わせる「男のロマン」ってものは、「さすが、松本先生だ。」と感じるところでした。
松本零士さんのペンタッチを生かしたキャラクター設定や、原作を大事にした演出には好感が持てました。
第2話に登場する桜花は、最近まで漫画の中での架空の兵器だと思い込んでいました。
「そんな物が実在したはずがない。」と思ってしまう程、想像を絶する悲劇だったんだと思いました。
当時の搭乗員の方の遺書を読んで桜花の存在を知った時、野上少尉の虚しさが真実となって私の心に伝わってきました。
「続ザ・コクピット」を作って欲しいと思います。
「零距離射撃88」も、涙なしでは読めない作品でした。

あの戦争で亡くなった若者たちが生きていたら、いったいどれだけのことをしたのだろうか。次の世代の子供たちと観てみたい作品。いささか、美化しすぎな面もあるが、松本零士のライフワークのアニメ化作品として印象に残るものだった。

本作は、松本零士原作の『ザ・コクピット』の中から「成層圏気流」・「音速雷撃隊」・「鉄の竜騎兵」をアニメ化し、収録したものである。今、ちょうど本作を見終わったところであるが、この溢れそうな思いは、いくら言葉を尽くしても表現しきれないのではないだろうか。

これまで私は『ザ・コクピット』の漫画は高く評価していたのだが、価格の高い本作の購入にはずっと二の足を踏んでいた。しかし、意を決して購入してみたところ、過大評価と言われるかもしれないが、その内容は宮崎駿作品に優るとも劣らない傑作であった。

まさかこれほどの作品が、未だに一部の人にしか知られず、眠っているというのは本当に驚きでしかない。もし私と同じように本作の購入を躊躇している人がいるならば、絶対に今こそ決断すべきである。手に入らなくなってから後悔しても仕方がない。原作に感動したならば、間違いなく本作にも感動できるはずである。

また是非とも他のエピソードも同様にアニメ化してほしいと思う。こういう作品こそ、２１世紀を生きる我々が未来へ残さなければならない本当の財産なのではないだろうか。
