当時俺はまだ未成年で、ロックにイカレたプー太郎だった。
ある時深夜喫茶に入って夜が明けるのを待っていると、
入って来た見慣れぬ男がいきなりジュークボックスに近寄り、
後ろのスイッチをごそごそ勝手にいじっている。
（そんな所でボリュームの操作が出来るとは知らなかった）
そしておもむろに１００円を入れ、選曲をした。

突如始まったのは店内を揺るがす聞いた事の無い
「グオ〜ン、ゴワ〜ン！」と云う何の楽器だか訳の判らん音、
続くリズミカルなアコースティックギターの「A」の音、
次にスネアとバスドラムがベシベシ叩きつけられて、
店内のビビリ音なのかスピーカーの底突き音なのか、「クワ〜ン、クワ〜ン」、
そして始まった、眠そうなけだるい声、でも聞いた事ある、

ミックだ！

俺の初めての「レット・イット・ブリード」体験だった。

それ以後一睡も出来ず開店をじりじりした思いで待って、俺はレコード屋に直行した。

何度も何度も聞きながらレコードのライナーノーツを何度読み返したか知れない。
三宅はるおさんの名文だった。

「自分がこのレコードのライナーノーツを書く仕事を貰った時、
俺は遂に偉大なローリング・ストーンズの最新アルバムに自分の言葉を刻める幸運に震えた。
そして自分が大好きなバンドの最新作なんだから簡単に書けるだろうとたかを括っていた。
書き出しも何度も考えた。
『ローリング・ストーンズが贈るファン待望の最新アルバムが発売されました！』
しかし自分がこのアルバムを聞いて受けた感動が全然書けてないと思って、
書いては破り捨てる日々が続いた。
いたずらに日々は過ぎ、そしてその間このアルバムを何度も何度も聞く機会が出来て、
自分の力量ではこのアルバムの素晴らしさを表現出来ないと云う思いが深まるばかりだった。
アフターマスも素晴らしかった、サタニック・マジェスティーズも意欲的だった。
しかしこの『レット・イット・ブリード』には今までの彼らのどのアルバムにも感じられなかった『落ち着き』を感じるのだ。
どうかステレオのボリュームを『最大』にして聞いて欲しい」

至言だ。

あの男もこの忠告を読んでいたに違いない。

「最高！」のストーンズをどうぞ。

ストーンズを６０年代から現在に至るまでリアルタイムで聞いてきたが、彼らの音楽的ピークは６９年〜７４年であったと思う。ベガーズ・バンケットからイッツ・オンリー・ロックン・ロールまでのアルバムはそれ以外のものと比べて段違いに質が高くて素晴らしい。特にこのレット・イット・ブリードは彼らの最高傑作であろう。捨て曲が１曲もないこれこそ真の名盤。
極端に言えばストーンズはこれらのアルバムを聞けば十分であり、８０年代以降はおまけである。

ミック・ジャガーは、天才である。ミックは、一言で言うならば、《サヴァイヴァル》の天才である。昔も今も、悩める心の青少年に、生き残りのためのスキルを徹底的に教え込む。ミックこそが、真の《ソウル・サヴァイヴァー》である。
