ﾌｫ-ｶｽと言えば、悪魔の呪文＝ﾖ-ﾃﾞﾙ＝変なﾌﾟﾛｸﾞﾚ･ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞみたいなｲﾒ-ｼﾞが強いﾛｯｸ･ﾌｧﾝが多いと思います。長い間日本盤ＣＤは発売されず、しかも、輸入盤もｵﾗﾝﾀﾞ盤だったりして入手が困難だった時代から考えれば夢のような再発です。
そんなﾌｫ-ｶｽの最高傑作と言えば本盤ということになります。

ちょっと待ってくれ！代表作は＜ﾑ-ﾋﾞﾝｸﾞ･ｳｪｲﾌﾞｽ＞とか＜ﾗｲﾌﾞ･ｱｯﾄ･ﾚｲﾝﾎﾞｳ＞じゃないのかと言うお叱りの声も聞こえてきそうですが、もちろんそれらのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑも傑作であることには変わりありません。
しかし、完成度においては本盤が突出しています。

ﾀｲｽとﾔﾝという二人の天才が在籍していたﾌｫ-ｶｽはﾋﾞ-ﾄﾙｽﾞやｽﾄ-ﾝｽﾞにも劣らない音楽性があったと確信しています。
まさに７０年代ﾛｯｸの歴史的名盤と言っても過言ではありません！

グループとしての知名度は低いようだが、知る人ぞ知る、#3「シルヴィア」、#9「ハウス・オブ・ザ・キング」を収録。この二曲と#2「ラヴ・リメンバード」あたりは様々なCMやTV番組BGMに多用された名曲だが、えっこれってフォーカスの曲だったの？という人もいることだろう。そのほかにもクラシック音楽の流れを汲む#4「カーニヴァル・フーガ」あり、メンバーのスウィング感が熱く伝わる大作#5「アンサーズ?・・・」､#6「アノニマス 2」ありとバラエティ的にも面白い内容になっている。思うに、今風にさらりと聞き流すのではなく、じっくりと腰を落ち着けて聴いて欲しい一枚だ。単なるミュージッシャンの域を超えたオランダの生んだ名コンポーザー、フォーカスのサウンドを通して、音楽に身を委ねることの心地よさを味わって欲しい。

　オランダ出身のプログレッシヴ・ロック・バンド，フォーカスの3rd Albumです。アナログ盤では２枚組として発売されていましたが，ＣＤでは１枚にとなっているので，何だかお得な感じです(^^;)。

　前作『Moving Waves』に収録されている『Focus Pocus（悪魔の呪文）』のヒットで日本でも一躍有名になった彼等の人気を決定づけたのがこのアルバムですが，私にとっては不朽の名作『Sylvia』が収録されているアルバムとしての認知度が高いですね。

　中学生の頃，ラジオから流れてきた『Sylvia』を初めて聴いたとき，冗談でなく感動で震えがきてしまいました。すぐに街のレコード屋までシングル盤を買いに行ったのですが，「まだシングルは出ていないみたいだよ」の一言にがっかり，アルバムを買おうにも２枚組ですから，お小遣いの少ない中学生には到底手が出るわけもなく，結局そのままうやむやのままになってしまいました。
　ようやく『Sylvia』の音源を手にしたのは，それから数年後，高校生になって来日記念の「ベスト盤」を入手したときのことです。
　!そのベスト盤には『Love Rememberd』『House Of The King』というえねま好みの曲が収録されていたのですが，その２曲とも実はこの『Focus 3 / Focus』に収録されている曲なんですね。

　『Sylvia』を含むこれら３曲に共通するのは，いかにもヨーロッパらしいクラシカルで繊細な美しさです。『Focus 3 / Focus』には『Answer? Questions! Questions? Answers!』のようなジャズ風味の長曲も収録されていて，これはこれで面白いのですが，えねま的には先にあげた３曲のようなクラシカルな小曲の方が好みですね
