Elis continues to explore the extremes, pushing forth with even more aggressive riffs and faster songs, while still emphasizing midtempo tracks and a refined ballad-like feel. ご存知のとおりバンドの象徴的存在とも言えるヴォーカルのサビーネ・デュンサー嬢は昨年7月にボーカルトラックを収録後、29歳という若さで脳溢血で夭折してしまいました。このアルバムは彼女の遺作にして、バンドの作品としても最高傑作だと断言できます。2004年発表の前作「Dark Clouds in a Perfect Sky」ですでに完成した姿を聴かせてくれましたが、この作品ではサビーネ嬢が醸し出す形容しがたい色気にさらに磨きがかかった感があります。あくまでもドラマティックな構成、徹底してハードなギターリフ、そしてすべてを包み込んでしまうような天才的な変幻自在のボーカル。どれをとってもパーフェクト！進化を続けてきた独自の疾走感はより磨きがかかっています。

サビーネ嬢の死という現実を認識しながら聴いてしまうと、どうしても思い入れのほうが先立って冷静なレビューにならないことは百も承知なのですが、それに抜きにしても約50分の桃源郷のような時間に浸ることでさまざまな思いが去来します。

残されたメンバーはこのアルバムを出すにあたって相当苦悩したそうですが、あえて世に送り出してくれたことで、我々は「一生ものの音楽」に触れることができたわけで、その英断に感謝しないといけません。新ボーカルも決定し、新しく生まれ変わった彼らの次作に期待するとしましょう。ちなみにボーナストラックの「Heaven & Hell」はブラックサバスのカバー曲。おどろおどろしい曲が何とも美しいものに変身しています。

リヒテンシュタインのゴシックメタルバンド、エリスの3rd。2006作
レコーディング中に女性Voのサビーネ嬢の急逝という悲劇をへてのアルバム。
サウンドの方は、前作に比べてよりメタリックになったという印象。
サビーネ嬢のやわらかな歌声とバックのカッチリとしたリフがややミスマッチな感もあり、
このバンドの大きな魅力であったヨーロピアンなしっとりとした叙情は薄くなってしまった。
WITHIN TEMPTATIONと同様、モダンなアプローチは若いリスナーには違和感なく聴けるだろうが、
前作までのいい意味での地域性が気に入っていた自分としてはやや残念。
もちろん、美声のフィメールゴシックししては高品質なのは確かだし、
何曲かで聴けるサビーネ嬢のドイツ語での歌唱にはやはりうっとりとなる。
