ポポル・ヴーは、日本ではヘルツォーク映画のサントラで知られていますが、
これはサントラとしてではなく、オリジナル作品としてリリースされたようです。

タイトルにキリスト教用語を使っているように、一種の宗教音楽のような
印象で貫かれています。コードを用いず流れるように単音を綴るエレキギター、
存在感のあるクラリネット、静寂さを感じさせるピアノ、少しハスキーかつ
ハイトーンな、独特の女性ボーカル、非常に崇高ですが、決して押し付け
がましい威圧感はなく、深いやさしさを感じます。

ジャーマン・プログレッシブに分類されることが多いバンドですが、
そういったジャンルの印象にとらわれることなく、静かに内面を見つめたい
時、ホッとしたい時などにいいかもしれません。

なお、この作品については、アーチスト名「PopolVuh」で検索すると、
同じ作品について複数の方のコメントがすでに書かれています。
ジャケット違い、再販などで同じ作品が何種類かになる場合、
コメントが統合されると便利なんですが。
まあ、それだけ長期間売れ続けていることは嬉しい限りですけれど。

ジャーマンプログレの名バンド、ポポル・ヴーの3rd。1972作
前作まではムーグシンセをメインにしたいわゆるエレクトロ系のサウンドだったが、
今作からはしっとりとしたピアノを中心に聴かせる、自然体の音へと変化している。
ゆるやかなピアノに神秘的な女性Voが絡み、そこに巧みにギターの音色を配した楽曲は
宗教的な荘厳さを秘めながらも、とても耳馴染みがよく、まどろむようにして聴ける。
ジャーマンロックのバンドたちの中でもひときわ異彩で、はかないほど繊細で美しい音だ。

「ロック」のカテゴライズではないと思いますが


ピンク・フロイドの「エコーズ」の中間部や、「神秘」の雰囲気を
もっと優しく繊細にして
ピアノを中心としたアコースティック・バージョンにしたような趣
、、、とでも言えばいいのでしょうか

前半はエレキギターの出番も多く、混沌とした感じもありますが
後半に進むにつれ
だんだん穏やかな雰囲気になっていくような感じです。


あまりドイツ・プログレといったカテゴライズに関係なく
残響豊かな音の世界を楽しめば良いのかなと思われます。
