言いたかないけど硬派のケニー・ドリューを「ムード・ジャズ歌謡」でさんざん売っておきながら、まだ売り足りないとばかり「奇跡の未発表」だと。そりゃーないでしょう。ラブホのＢＧＭでしょう。ま、ムード歌謡好きだったらどうぞ。ケニーのピアノはうまいんだし・・・・。

1980年代、ケニー・ドリュー・トリオによる一連のスタンダード・ナンバーのアルバムは実に良く売れました。私もその購入者の一人ですが、そこでの未発表曲を集めたアルバムが発売されたとなると聴かずにはおれません。

ケニー・ドリューのピアノ・ソロ演奏「スマイリング・フォー・ユー」の上手さと素晴らしさはどうでしょう。これを聴くだけでも未発表のままでなくて良かった、と思われることでしょう。華麗なテクニックは定評がありますし、リリカルで、ナイーブで、パッションもあるピアニストってそうはいません。繰り返し聴けば聴くほど、内面の豊かな音楽性が感じられます。このように弾きたい、という熱い思いがないとこのようには表現できないですね。
ショー・ビジネスの世界ですから、ある程度売れる選曲は当然ですし、ジャズと共に何十年歩んできた足跡の全てが感じ取れる演奏でした。

ケニー・ドリューもヨーロッパへ行って良かったと思います。もちろん、1950年代以降のニューヨーク時代での演奏の冴えも理解していますが、ペデルセンやシグペンの影響で北欧ジャズの優雅さを身につけた1980年頃の演奏は冴えわたっています。

冒頭の「A列車で行こう」が何故未発表だったのか理解できないくらいスピード感に溢れ、ご機嫌なジャズが展開されています。スウィングとはかくあるべし、でしょうか。リスナーの気持ちも昂揚してきますし、3人の息もピッタリと合っているのは流石です。確かにケニー・ドリューにしては、ミス・タッチも散見されますが、味わいだと思えばなんでもないですし、途中ペデルセンのベース･ソロの上手さには聞き惚れてしまいます。
そして有名なテーマへの帰結。ウォー、と叫びたいくらいの心地よさに包まれています。参りました・・・。
