   アラン・パーカー監督が、麻薬所持の疑いで投獄された青年が自由を得るまでを描いた硬派のエンタテインメント。自らの体験をつづったビリー・ヘイズの原作を若き日のオリバー・ストーンが脚色し、第51回アカデミー賞を受賞した。
   いわゆる脱獄モノというか、アメリカ映画によくあるその種のジャンルの娯楽映画とは異なり、その内容はきわめて現実的で、あまたの閉鎖状況を、ヒーローが活躍して解消するという物語ではない。そのため映像のトーンは終始暗く、主人公ビリー（ブラッド・デイビス）の置かれた悲惨な環境がリアルに描かれているあたりが、実話をもとにした本作ならではの特徴と言えよう。（斉藤守彦）

5.0 out of 5 stars アラン・パーカー監督作では最高に見応え或る作品！, 2007/5/28
2時間1分の間これだけ隙間なく、緊迫感漲る作品が何故かAcademy Nominateだけに終わってしまったのには正直疑問は残るが（相手が「The Deer Hunter」だっただけに分が悪すぎたか．．．）、何度観ても感動を呼ぶ珠玉の名作である。

Based On A True Storyだけに、映画で描かれている世界が余りにも生々しく、怒りさえ感じざるを得ないのだが、オリバー・ストーンの脚色も流石、Academyを獲得しただけの事はある。
私は高校2年の時東宝敷島劇場で、ブラッド・デイヴィスと恋人のアイリーン・ミラクルとの面会Sceneを観た時は、結構衝撃でした。

出演陣も超地味で、華やかさは全くないが、主役のブラッド・デイヴィスからは刑務所で心身ともに疲れきり、脱獄だけが唯一の希望と化したギラギラした雰囲気が画面からムンムン感じられて、素晴らしい演技を披露している。
それだけにこの作品以降、徐々にFade-Outしていき、91年、42歳の若さでこの世を去ってしまったのは非常に残念である。

かなり前にレンタルで観たきりでまた観たく購入しようと思いました。駄作とも良作とも取れるとレビューがありますが何となく解ります。というか観てて目を背けたくなる自分がいるんですね、初めて観た時は残酷で陰気臭い感じで嫌悪感を覚えました。しかしながらそういった事をラストシーンが全て吹き飛ばしてくれます、このシーンが印象的なので私の中で名作になってます。事実という事が感動に拍車をかけてる事もありますが、このシーンじゃなかったらドロドロしただけの二度と観たくない映画になってたかも知れません。

これが実話に基づいているというのだからスゴイ！！

私が初めて見たのはテレビで淀川さんの解説での放送でした。
今から20年以上前だったように思うのですが、当時子供だったにもかかわらず、
見たときの衝撃を忘れられず、いまどきのDVDにしては高価にもかかわらず即購入してしまいました。

ド派手なアクション好きの軽薄映画ファンですが、
このドラマの重さは…違う私をえぐり・引きずり出してくれるようです。。。
