パソコンに要求する性能が高いうえに、ドライバやユーティリティー、ソフトウェアの対応
状況によっては不具合に見舞われます。今まで使えていたソフトがまともに動かずに
ストレスをためるより、しばらく様子をみつつ、各パーツのアップグレードを検討するなり
してじっくり構えていたほうがいいと思います。

自分のパソコンの性能が足りなかったわけではないのですが、上記の理由から、
安定動作していたＸＰに戻したところです。動作も軽いですしね。

使用しているPCのメモリが512MBで推奨条件を満たしていないので、設定の変更処理時には重いようです。
ウィンドウを半透明に表示するWindows Areo 機能・3Dで表示するフリップ 3D ナビゲーション機能はメモリが512MBでも使えました。
初期設定ではWindows Areo 機能が無効でした。
有効にするための設定方法が記載されておらず、有効にするためには

１．ウエルカムセンターウィンドウのWindowsの開始の一番下に表示されているすべての...個の項目の表示をクリックしてすべて表示
２．表示されたコントロールパネルアイコンをクリック
３．デスクトップのカスタマイズの項目の中の色のカスタマイズをクリック
４．色のカスタマイズウィンドウの一番下の詳細な色の...をクリック
５．表示されたデザインの設定ウィンドウの配色を Windows Areo に変更し決定

という手順を踏まなければなりません。
フリップ 3D ナビゲーション機能の使用方法も記載されておらず、かなり手間取ってしまいました。
新機能にしては説明書の説明が足りなく、わかりづらかったです。

画面は
・デスクトップアイコン・文字がXPに比べ若干大きめ。
・タスクバー上のウィンドウのボタンをポイントするとその内容が表示され、一目でウィンドウの内容がわかる。
・ 画面上にリストのようなWindows サイドバーという領域を左右いずれかの場所に表示でき、ガジェットといわれる時計やカレンダーといった実用的なものから、CPUやメモリの使用率やピクチャパズルというスライドパズルなどのアクセサリがあり、その中からお好みの機能を選択して表示できる。
というように、改良されています。
ただ、スタートメニューはプログラムが小さく表示されるので、XPのほうが使いやすいと思いました。
