　音源は、３６年前の１９７０年の３月で、場所は、フィルモア・イーストとの事です。
今のデジタル時代に全６曲で収録時間が、４４分弱とアナログ時代に逆行してるという
普通でない発想が、まさにニールヤング！と納得してしまいます。
紙ジャケのデザインと裏ジャケの若いニールヤングの写真もファンには堪らない内容となってます。
　クレージー・ホースを率いての若いバンドの音は、ハンパでなく魂のバンド・サウンドです！
故人・ダニー・ウィットンのギター音が、最高です。５曲目では、ウィットンの歌も聴けます。
正直、期待してた以上の作品でした。エレキ・ギターの最高峰に位置するＬＩＶＥアルバムと
言っても、過言ではありません。６曲と言わずもっと聴きたかったです。
この様な素晴らしい内容の音源を蔵出しするとは、脱帽です。
　アーカイブ・シリーズとの事ですので、次回の作品も非常に楽しみです。

　近年のロックにおいて、未発表録音などばかりが注目される傾向があることについては、無論いいとは思わない。残念ながら、以前から指摘されてきた通り、ロックも、ジャズなどと共通のあり方になってきたということではあろう。
　だが、そうはいっても、ニール・ヤング＆クレイジー・ホース、１９７０年のフィルモア・イーストでのライヴということになったら聴かないわけにはいかない。ギターは７２年に亡くなるダニー・ウィットゥンである。ジャケットなどから伺える情報も興味深い。ニールとマイルス・デイヴィスの名前が看板に並んでいるのを見ると、やはり一種の感慨をもつ。引用されている当時の評に「ハード・ロック‐カントリー」とあるのもおかしい。まあ、そういえば確かにそうである。
　全編収録ではないらしいのが残念だが、内容はやはり素晴らしい。無論、バンドとしても初期の演奏だから、まだまだ荒っぽい。まあ、今でも荒っぽいけど。こちらの期待の的であるニールのギター・ソロも、まだ手探り的な雰囲気を感じさせる部分もある。とはいえ、あまりに有名な３と６でのソロはやはり凄い。６など、演奏が始まった瞬間から興奮して立ち上がりそうになる。ルー・リードやトム・ヴァーレインらと共に、北米の、ジャズなどの影響も受けたシンガー＝ソングライター固有の世界だ。
　他に、ダニーが歌う５もなんとも泣けるものである。それにしても、この演奏から既に３６年がたつ。３や６といったトラックそのものがもつ時間感覚と、実際に演奏されたときからの時間の経過があいまり、なんとも多重的な「長さ」というものを感じてしまう。

初期ニール・ヤングの曲の中で私がとりわけ好きなのが、カウガール・イン・ザ・サンド。これまでＣＳＮ＆Ｙのライヴ盤「４ウェイ・ストリート」でのアコースティック・ヴァージョンが一番気にいっていましたが、ここにオリジナルのようにエレクトリックで、しかも１４分を越す火花を散らすギター演奏がメインの長尺ヴァージョンが姿を現し、その迫力に圧倒されました。本作はクレージー・ホースをバックにしたニールのフィルモア・イースト（アルバム・ジャケットの写真が実に味がある！　しかも本作は紙ジャケット）でのエレクトリック・セットを収録したもので、このカウガール・イン・ザ・サンドのためだけでも購入して損はしません。ニールのライヴはその後、「ライヴ・ラスト」「ウェルド」と進化していきますが、３６年も前のこの素晴しい演奏に接することができ、ニールの真価はライヴにあり、との感をより深く持ちました。本作はニールのアーカイヴ・シリーズの第一弾とのことですが、ボブ・ディランのブートレグ・シリーズのような成功を祈っています。
