既に所謂ネオアコの名盤という評価を不動のものにしたファーストの陰に隠れがちな
セカンドだが、私見では英国ギターポップの決定的名作。一枚目がバカラックやラブ
の影響が色濃かったのに対し、ヒリヒリするようなバンドサウンドにマイケル・ヘッド
の若々しいシャウトが炸裂するダイナミズムは何物にも変えがたい。疾走するプロモ
ヴィデオも懐かしい決定的名曲(3)や青春の痛みに満ち溢れた(4)(5)といった名曲を
収録。今回の再発ではかつてのCD化の際なぜかヴァージョンが差し替えられた(4)や
タイトル曲をオリジナルLPのヴァージョンに戻しリリースされているのも意義深い。

９５年発表。プロデューサーとしてイアン・ブロウディを立てたアルバムだが、基本はほとんど変わっていないと思う。一曲目が流れてきた時に一瞬だけイアンのソロ・プロジェクトのライトニング・シーズを思い浮かべたものの、後は従来通りなので、１ｓｔが気に入った人なら問題ないと思う。ただほんの少しだけ楽曲が１ｓｔよりは落ちる感じはするので、まずは１ｓｔを聞いてみて気に入った人が入手する方が良いかも。弦やブラスなども使用が控えめになり、ちょっと奥に引っ込んだ感じなので、よりギター・ポップっぽくなった感じ。ヴォーカルも演奏も引き締まった感じだけど、やっぱり青臭い瑞々しさは健在。ネオ・アコらしい作品ですね。
