ジャケ写から攻撃的なロックをイメージしたらそれは違う。80年代半ばのネオアコ・ブームのなかで登場したバンドなので、そういう位置づけがされたりしたけど、それも違う。たしかにアズテック・カメラに似たとても優しいメロディアスな曲ばかりなんだけど、ストリングスやブラスを多用するなどアレンジに凝っていて、じつに華麗。名曲といわれる「サンキュー」もバート・バカラックあたりの雰囲気。そんななかにロックの青臭さのようなものが感じられて、そこがいい。80年代が残した名盤の１つだと思う。

ビートルズもそうですが、リヴァプール出身のバンドが
切ないメロディーを創るのは何故なのだろう？
クレプスキュールからデビューした頃は、
ナイーヴで弱々しい感じだったが、
ヴァージンに移籍してからのこのアルバムでは、
パンク的要素が加わり、力強くなっていたので
当時はとても驚きました。
ボーナストラックも充実しており、とにかく名盤です。

　このＣＤを手にしてからしばらく聴けなかった・・・封を開けることができなかった。あの２０代前後にあれほど愛してやまなかったネオアコのそれもペイル・ファウンテンズなのに。なぜなら純粋無垢なあのメロディーを、今年「不惑」を迎える４０男があの時と同じように感動・感激できるか・・・だから怖くて聴けなかった。

　今日仕事で疲れきって部屋に戻ると不思議に、そして自然にＣＤに手が伸び「封」を開けた。「すごい！」２０年ぶりに聴いたとは思えない。疲れた身体に素直に染み込んでくる。このグループと出会えたこと幸せに思う。これは名盤です！！
