あくまで個人的な意見だが、もはや完全にグラインド・コアというジャンルを「粉砕」したように思う。

取り沙汰されるrichのドラミングは、相変わらず難解かつ爆裂で、個性的な太鼓の叩き方だ。

また、なにかとrichばかりに触れられるこのバンドだが、ギターのpingdumにherzog、ベースのjoeらの高度なプレイ(本当に凄い。どこでなにやってたか知らんが、もっと有名になってもよかろうに)も聴き逃せない。

サウンドプロダクションも素晴らしい。クリアだが生々しく、楽曲の輪郭をより深くしている。

なによりも素晴らしいのは、攻撃力抜群なグラインドであるのに、一曲ごとの個性がはっきり感じられること。曲が聴き分けられるグラインドの存在は、今も昔も貴重な存在だ。

アルバム後半、アコースティックな楽器群でスローなセルフカバーをやっていたりするが、これは賛否が分かれるだろう。個人的には、どこか退廃感の漂う内容で意外と好感が持てた。なにより前半のグラインド部分が素晴らしすぎる故か。

グラインド・コアの最重要格であったBRUTAL TRUTHの再結成。喜ばしいのは分かるが、どうにも金の臭いが充満する再結成である。現に、過去の解散時に散らばったメンバーの中で、唯一グラインドを追求し続けたのは、rich hoakだけなのだ。

「グラインド・コアでなにかが出来る」と本気で考えているとしか思えなかった当時のBRUTAL TRUTHメンバーの中で、いまだにグラインドで何かをやれると心底信じているのは、richだけじゃなかろうか?

長くなったが、ようやく「sounds of the animal kingdom」に並ぶ名盤が誕生した。なによりそのことが嬉しい。
