キャリアを終わらせる駄作だとはちらりとも思わないが、不安定な『Kingdom Come』はジェイ・Zが引退を終わらせることにする最適な理由にはなっていない。業界に舞い戻ってくる彼の熱意がこのアルバムにさぞかしエネルギーを注いでいるとファンは思うことだろうが、CDの冒頭を飾るジャスト・ブレイズによる強力な3曲があるにも関わらず、アルバムの大半は気力がなく集中力に欠けているように感じられ、ドクター・ドーレやネプチューンズといった一流プロデューサーたちも実に生温い一部の曲で大失敗していてどうしようもない。所々にいい瞬間もある。激烈なタイトル・ソング「Lost Ones」でジェイのソウルが剥きだしになるところや、「Dig a Hole」の冷笑だ。だがこうした瞬間はぱっとしない「Beach Chair」(コールドプレイのクリス・マーティンのプロデュース)や鼻持ちならない企業の闊歩「30 Something」、そしてけばけばしく、聞くに耐えないクラブ向きの曲「Anything」で相殺されてしまう。この10年に及ぶジェイのファンならば、彼の実力はこんなものでないことをよく知っている。だから、ジェイの本当のカムバックのアルバムがあらたな期待となるだろう。--Oliver Wang

　失敗の許されない復帰作とだけありマーケットをかなり意識した作品でしょう。ne-yoやjohn legend, usher、beyonceと、ポップ層にもアピールできるゲストを迎えています。全曲のミックスをdreが手掛けていることからもそれが窺えます。それとは裏腹にhovのリリックはかなり濃いです。biggsやdameとの確執を語った"lost one",彼の人生の哲学を歌う”beach chair"などとリリック自体は１ｓｔのころなみに深くインスパイアされているように感じます。アルバムの出来自体は前作の方がいいですが、こちらのほうがより深くのびのびとライムしているようです。元々生粋のストリートハスラーであったhovですから、社長赴任は自然の流れと見ていましたが、オフィスワークによりかれのラップのスキルが衰えるのでは？と心配していました。しかし、ラップが全く衰えを見せていない、というか前作よりも深いところには本当に驚かされています。恐らく彼ほどのラッパーだと何をしていても自然とラップに行き着いてしまうのでしょう。リスナーとして嬉しい限りです。何より、lost oneの詩が本当に出来がいい。♪lose ones, lose some to win some♪フックもいいけすけど、verse3のtime don’ go back, it goes forwardがホント好きですね、僕は。
　このアルバムの欠点は先述したマスアピールのできる曲達ですね。beyonceとアッシャーの９、１０は本当に最後まで聞くのが苦痛の曲になってしまいました。13のminority reportもhov初の社会意識が高い曲でリリックもかなり鋭いのですが、いかんせんne-yoのボーカルはこの曲にはあっていないだろう...こういうマス向けの曲もjayほどのラッパーならもう少し品質を向上できたはずです。てことで星は４つですね。

引退を何度も示唆しつつ活動してきたＮＹ出身のラッパー、Jay-Z。今度こそ本気で引退ということで、Black Albumを出した。
ブラックアルバムはキャリア集大成的な雰囲気で、本当に引退だと思ったら結局復活、その第一弾がこのアルバム。
一小節分のサウンドが延々と続くようなラップが流行る中、あくまでクールな楽曲にのせ、音楽もしっかり作ったラップだったJay-Z。
今回も、ファーストシングル「Show Me What You Got」は、生楽器をちゃんと演奏した感動的にして華やかな仕上がり。
華々しいカムバックをＰＲするようなシングルになっている。ほかに、Dr. DreプロデュースでキャッチーながらしみじみしたLost One、
ジョン・レジェンド参加でカニエ・ウエストプロデュースのDo U Wanna Ride、Dr. Dreプロデュースでとてもキャッチーな30 Something、
古いＲ＆Ｂの雰囲気もかもし出したI Made It、なぜかコールドプレイのクリス･マーティンと共演の８０ｓ風Beach Chair、
長年交際中のビヨンセと共演のHollywood、ハリケーンカトリーナのネタを入れたMinority Report（Ne-yoと共演）などを収録。
ファーストシングルをはじめ、３、４曲とてもいい曲が入っているのだが、全体としてはもうひとつ。
ネプチューンズの曲は不思議な雰囲気でアッシャーも参加しているが、少々異色すぎたか。
多くの豪華共演アーティストの魅力が生かされていない感じがした。
しかし、アメリカ盤にのみ付いている２枚目のＣＤには、ライブが３曲だけだが収録されており、これが涙ぐむ程良い。
生バンド（多分）のクールな演奏は圧巻。というわけで、本編星３つ、付録ＣＤ星５つで間をとって４としておく。

後二回は復活してよろしい。何故なら大仁田だって何度もリング復帰しているからね。引退したのに。ま、そんなことよりもさすがって感じですよジガ。残念なのはNasとの曲がなかったこと位ですかね。一枚目のアルバムを目指すというか、あの頃の雰囲気のあるアルバムにするみたいな感じでしょうけど、あの頃を知らない奴らも、買って勉強しなさい。
