97年Cymbalsのボーカリストとしてデビュー。04年バンド解散後、ソロシンガーとして実父・土岐英史氏を共同プロデュースに迎えたジャズカバー集『STANDARDS?土岐麻子ジャズを歌う?』シリーズ全3タイトル、オリジナルアルバム『Debut』をリリース。その存在感のある「声」と非常に高いクオリティーで各方面で高い評価を獲得、大きな反響を呼び、多数のアーティストのレコーディング・ライヴへの参加をはじめ、最近では江利チエミ『CHIEMI SINGS』の選曲やCM界でも幅広く活躍。

Cymbals のファンだった私としては、土岐さんのソロ・アルバムは複雑な気持ちもあってこのアルバムまで全く聞いてこなかったのだけども、今回はパステルカラーの可愛らしいジャケットに釣られてみました。自由奔放な選曲を除けば土岐さんのイメージ通りの音で安心して聞けるアルバムです。ジャジーでボッサでポップなカヴァー集・・・おそらく土岐さんの全てのアルバムに共通したエッセンスをより分かりやすく出している作品なのではないでしょうか？ＹＭＯの君に胸キュンにはびっくりしましたが、これがいい。その他、吉田美奈子の大滝詠一の作品、夢で逢えたら、山下達郎の Down Town とある意味、この選曲なら“絶対に目につく”わけで、またそれらを本当にうまく料理しています。実際には後半の、September や Sunday Morning などもかなり出来が良く、全体的にはあっさりしつつも完成度はすこぶる高い気がします。いつでもそばに置いておいて毎日でも聞いてみたい素晴らしい作品で、個人的にもここしばらくは毎日聞いています。Cymbals 時代のスビード感を重視した直線的なヴォーカルは丸みと表現力を格段に広げていてちょっとびっくり。君に胸キュンはまるで矢野顕子が歌っているみたいだし、夢逢えたらも吉田自身が歌っているかのよう・・・。一つだけ苦言を言わせていただけば、屈指のソングライターを葬ってまで、やるべき音楽であったかは疑問。このアルバムを聞き終えるとライヴでさんざん聞いて飽きていた My Brave Face が聞きたくなります。

Cymbalsの「Highway Star,Speed Star」に代表されるようなポップでめくるめくスピード感溢れる曲も大好きでしたが、土岐麻子としてのソロで歌う曲も、大好きです。表現される作品は、リスナーを惹きつける選曲で、何度聴いてもあきない。ジャズシンガーとしての土岐麻子の魅力とポップでキュートでおしゃれな彼女の声が、このアルバムに至って、これ以上ない具合に詰め込まれ、表現されている。Maroon5の「Sunday morning」は最高。拍手を送りたい。当分、このアルバム１枚を仕事やドライブの合間のパートナーにしたいと思う。

月〜金曜を終え、ウィークエンドがやってきます。
土曜日はこのアルバムを聴いて癒され、
日曜はこのアルバムで次の月〜金曜の為の充電をする。
癒されて充電出来る。素晴らしいアルバムだと思います。
