アンダーウェアには２種類の用途がある。ひとつは身体の保温目的と、もうひとつは発汗を寒さに変えないための繊維による吸湿性だ。
天然繊維でこれに優れたものがウールとシルクだ。長らく重宝されてきたが、お互いに一長一短がある。ウールは保温性に優れるが保湿性が高い為に保温の邪魔になることがままある。かわってシルクは吸湿性に優れるが保温性となるとウールに一歩譲る。ここで化学繊維の開発にしのぎを削るわけだが、もっとも成功したのが、このブレスサーモだろう。保温性に特に優れ吸湿性、速乾性が高いとなればアンダーウェアーにはこれしかないとしか言わざるを得ない。ウールとシルクの名誉の為に記すがそれぞれには特長があり、就寝時などはシルクが優れているし保湿性が高いウールは外からの水分をはじくことなどでアウターウェアに適しているし、しわになりにくくお洒落着などに適している。夏涼しく冬は暖かいという特長は両者にある。

普段着ていて暖かいのは勿論ですが、お勧めは多少汗をかく冬のスポーツに持ってこいです。私はゴルフと乗馬をやりますが、いつもより重ね着が１枚減ります。さらに汗をかいた後も身体が冷えないので着替えの必要もないです。冬はドライビングレンジでの練習が億劫なのですが、ブレスサーモを着ていれば薄着でいても身体の温まりが早いです。身体を痛め難いのではないのでしょうか！最初は３千円台の下着なんてありえないと思いましたが、納得です。今では２４時間着用しています。
