ビョークの音楽は、ある種の緊張を強いるというか
聞き流すことができないので（その点、グレン・グールドに似ている）、
日頃あまりCDプレーヤーに乗せることがない。

でも、11月初旬あたり、
空気がしまって、冬が始まる頃に、
このアルバムをかける。

6曲目「Frost」と続く「Aurora」は、
この時期にとてもふさわしいからだ。

雪片が宙で舞い踊る情景が浮かぶ「Frost」は、
ビョーク自身が開発した
特殊なオルゴール（musicbox）を使ったインスト曲。

雪片の彼方、ビョークの歌に乗って揺れるオーロラは美しい。

ラストの「Unison」では、
「今夜はひとつになりましょう。争うことはやめて」と
印象的な、やさしいフレーズが、
子守歌のように何度もくりかえされる。

こぶくろの曲（「蕾」）の中にも、そのフレーズがサビとして使われている。
2007年、銀盤上でブレイクダンス流「白鳥の湖」を
見事に披露したフィギュアスケートの高橋選手は、
エキジビションでビョークの曲
「Bachelorette」を使っていた。

Vespertineのジャケットは、
スワンドレスを着たビョークのモノクロ写真。
CDケースは真っ白で、背には何の文字もない。

メダラも抗ドロのサントラも好きですが、この人のピークはやっぱこの作品だったのではないかと思います。
立体的で神々しいサウンドの中をビョークのいろんな感情を聞き手に抱かせる魂からの歌声が舞い踊る。
この作品でのビョーク以上に歌姫という言葉が似合うミュージシャンにはまだお目にかかってません。
後半の流れは明らかにケイトブッシュのHOUND OF LOVEからの影響だと思いますが、最高です。
ベストトラックはオーロラ。
涙がでます。
