個人的な話になってしまうのですが、私が初めてSHにハマるきっかけとなったのがこの「Roman」でした。
たまたま、友人に「黄昏の賢者」を聴かせてもらったのですが、あまりのインパクトの強さに数日間忘れられず、気がつけば購入していたという感じです。
第一期からのファンの方によれば大分平均化されてきた作品。
という評価のようですが、SH作品を初めて聴く人にとっては十分衝撃だらけの一枚だと思います。
皆さんおっしゃるとおり、人により好きか嫌いかは結構はっきり分かれる作風だとは思いますが、まず、聴いてみてからでないと分からない。
そういう作品だと思います。

「Roman」から入った方は、是非「Roman」以前の作品にも可能な限り触れてほしいです。
その後「Roman」に戻ってくると、また新たな発見があるハズ…。
本当に、色々な意味で楽しませてくれる「仕掛けCD」です。

大きな転換期を迎えたＳＨ第二期の、新たな地平線。

私は「Chronicle 2nd」からのＳＨファンで、Revo氏が紡ぎAramaryさんが語る物語が好きです。
それは今でも変わりません。
それでも、大勢の表現者による大勢だからこそ出来る表現が確かにあると思います。

Kaoriさんの力強さ。
Yuukiさんの透明さ。
Remiさんの美しさ。
Rikkiさんの切なさ。

中でも、８曲目「美しきもの」の美しい旋律とYuukiさんの歌声。
１１曲目「１１文字の伝言」の歌詞とRikkiさんのヴィヴラート。
この２曲は、お二方の声以外では表現できないものがあると感じました。

前半はアップテンポの曲が、後半はバラードの曲が続く構成は、おそらく計算されたものでしょう。
聞き慣れてくるまで、若干後半は辛いかな〜とも思います（眠くなるｗ）

勢揃いした有名声優さんたちは一言二言しか喋らない方も居るので、
声優さんのファンだから買うのは危険です。

じまんぐ氏のソロも２曲あるので、じまんぐファンは必聴。
１曲目の男性Vo.はご愛敬で。私は好きです(笑)

生み出される作品の方向性の一つとして非常に好ましいと思いました

最初は聞いている間に何も感じはしませんでしたが
歌詞を読み込み、言葉の意味を考え
セリフやそれぞれの効果音から読み取れる物語は
音楽、としてよりは創作物としての評価を覚えます。
歌声や歌詞だけでなく、ジャケット、歌詞カード、デザイン、音、台詞
全てが物語の一部で、どれか一つでも欠けては勿体ない。
音だけで考える、声優や歌う人で考える、などの
一つ一つの点を取り出せば、幾らでも荒は出て来ますが（＾＾；

生と死を題材にされていますが、死はあくまで凄惨で無情であり
美しいものとして描かれない事に共感を覚えました。
（個人的に語るならば、１１曲目の「１１文字の伝言」は
親と言う存在を考え直させられる良い曲だと思います）

以前の曲とは方向性が異なる作品ですから
「過去の作品、方向性こそがSoundHorizonだ！」という方には
確かに受け付けづらいと思います。
以前と違う作風である事など、「この作品は劣る」と
感じる方にがいらっしゃるのもまた一つの真実であると思いますが
しかし過去の作品も聞いた上で、私にとってどちらも
一つの作品として優劣付け難いものでしたので
そこのあたりは完全に好き嫌いの問題になるかと思います
