SF大作であると同時に、劇中で上映されているヒッチコックの『めまい』と深く関わっている作品。
描かれているテーマは「時間のらせん」。
『めまい』のヒロインの役名は「マデリン」。『12モンキーズ』のヒロインの役者名は「マデリーン」。
終点と始点が重なる物語。
同じ円を描いているようで、深く落ちていく。
キム・ノヴァックが演じる「めまいマデリン」のような姿へ変装するマデリーン・ストウを見ていると、
『ラ・ジュテ』『めまい』で描かれた「時間のらせん」を、もう一度描こうとするギリアムの意思が伝わってくる。
原案の「ラ・ジュテ」を見ることができなくても、ヒッチコックの「めまい」とあわせて見て欲しい作品。

これはかなり個人的な意見ですが、見ているとイライラしてきます。
まず主人公が精神的に軟弱すぎる、力は強いのに・・・
登場人物のほとんどがうざいと感じました。
写真やラジオでのべたな伏線のはり方は好きですし
それがつながったときの感じは良かったのですが、
自分が本当に妄想してるんじゃないかと言い出したときは
ここまできてそれかよ・・・・と。
すっきりしないし何かイライラしてきます。
なんか登場人物の性格？というか疑問の抱き方？が
とてもうざく思えてきて・・・駄作とかではないですが
個人的に肌に合いませんでした。
