もう何年も前に筒井康隆さんの原作を読んだことがありますが，
当時はＳＦとして楽しんでいました。
でもその印象とは別にこの物語は，原田知世演ずる一人の少女の
恋の物語というニュアンスが強く，そう言う意味で原作を生かし
ながらもまったく違った映画であるといえるのかもしれません。
原田知世が歌うエンディングは，一遍のミュージッククリップ

としても素晴らしくＤＶＤで何回再生をしたことでしょう。

初めての主演映画のなかで、まさに時を彷徨うように ---映画とともに--- 慎重に、手探りに彷徨い、成長していくかのような少女・原田知世の、スクリーンに映し出されたフィルムの中の、ドキュメントな姿、フォームを生かしながら、そして暖かく包み込んだような、素晴らしくファンタジックな映画を作った監督の眼差しと手腕に感動したものだ。

ぼくはこのころから大林宣彦と原田知世を絶賛し始め、この監督の映画に信頼と期待を持ちはじめたのである。
この映画の中の知世の台詞の発声は、上手いとか下手とかを超えた、少女のはかなく、しかも持続的に輪廻する愛の微熱を、そのままに伝えてくるかのようにぼくには聞こえた。
それは、作家・大林宣彦の内にある想いそのものを重ねているようにさえ感じるものだった。

舞台も、「転校生」の昼の尾道といい、そしてこの映画の夜の尾道、背景にある情緒も味わい深い。
