ＡＰＰの最新リマスターシリーズ第２弾がやっとこさリリースされました。
当初の発売予定からほぼ一年ぶり。いやぁ首を長くして待ちましたよ！！
今回は、この「運命の切り札」と「ピラミッド」「ステレオトミー」の３枚です。
さて、このアルバム「運命の切り札」は、大ヒット作品「アイ・イン・ザ・スカイ」の前作となるもので、
それまでにないエリック・ウルフソンのボーカルを大幅にフューチャーした傑作なのです。
ウルフソンのボーカルこそＡＰＰの代名詞的なところがあり、後のアルバムでも重要な位置をしめていますね。
この「運命の切り札」でも、TimeやNothing Left To Loseでその独特の優しいボーカルを披露しています。

で、今回も超目玉のボートラについてですが、
11. May Be A Price To Pay (Intro Demo)
同曲のファンファーレ的なイントロ部分の別テイクです。ボーカル前にフェードアウトしています。
12. Nothing Left To Lose (Basic Backing Track)
ウルフソンのボーカル無し。キーボード演奏のインスト曲になっています。
ドラマチックに転調する曲ですが、全てインストです。結構イケてると思います。
13. Nothing Left To Lose (Chris Rainbow Overdub Compilation)
最初に重厚なコーラスハーモニーで始まるまったく別曲に聞こえます。
原曲で、ウルフソンからクリス・レインボーに代わった部分のダブバージョンです。
14. Nothing Left To Lose (Early Studio Version with Eric's Guide Vocal)
同曲のウルフソンのボーカル有り別テイクですね。ウルフソンの部分だけでフェードアウト。
15. Time (Early Studio Attempt)
これもウルフソンのボーカルの無いインスト曲で、ベースとなる演奏だけで進みます。
16. Games People Play (Rough Mix)
あの独特のイントロ部分でかけ声が聴かれるバージョンです。レニー・ザカテックのボーカルは同じでしょう。
17. The Gold Bug (Demo)
同曲の別テイクデモバージョンですが、ベース音が強調され主旋律のキーボードがほとんど消されています。

以上、今回もＡＰＰファンにはたまらない貴重なボートラ収録でした。
残り３作品も年内リリースを期待しましょう！！

１９８０年リリース。個人的には「ピラミッド」が最高の１枚なので、前作「イヴの肖像」同様物足りなさが残るアルバムでした。実はこのアルバムいつか購入しようと思いながらも、昨年やっと手に入れた次第・・・もう二十数年経ってましたね（笑）。プログレッシヴロックのサイドで語られる事の多いプロジェクト（バンド）ですが、音はいたってタイトでポップな良質のロック・・・メロディラインやアレンジを重視しているので、とても聴きやすく仕上げられています。アナログでいうＢ面に配した組曲（タイトルトラック）：「運命の切り札」でも、５曲ＴＯＴＡＬしても２０分に満たないので、さらりと心地よく聴いてしまいます・・・アルバム通じてこの「さらり感」があるため、前述した物足りなさが残るんですね。とは言え淡々とエリックウールフソンが歌う「ＴＩＭＥ」なんてのは、まさにこのプロジェクトの魅力満載のクールなバラードで、大好きですよ！参加メンバーは、デヴィットパットン（Ｂ）・スチュワートエリオット（Ｄｒ）・イアンベアンソン（Ｇ）のパイロット隊・・・エリックウールフソン（Ｋｅｙ/Ｖｏ）・アランパーソンズ（Ｐｒｏ/Ｋｅｙ）という編成。ボーカルは、エリックの他にエルマーガントリー・レニーザカテク・クリスレインボウが担当しています。あらためて聴くと、とても二十数年前のものとは思えないです・・・しかし、なんで国内はすぐ廃盤にしちゃうのか（まあ売れないかいまさら、笑）。疲れた心を癒してくれるアルバムでございます！！因みに、スリーヴコンセプトのクレジットは、ロルクレーム＆ケヴィンゴドレー・・・驚！！
