どうやら日本盤では今のところ発売しないようなので、輸入盤を購入して聴いてみました。
これまで幾度かリマスター盤が出てるので、音は変わらない気がします。
やはり目玉は、ボーナス楽曲ですよね。
11. Sirius (Demo)
原曲のデモバージョンですが、オーケストラを加える前のアレンジです。
12. Old & Wise (Eric Woolfson guide vocal)
これは貴重、超目玉！
ウルフソンがボーカルのオールド・アンド・ワイズです。
これもオーケストラアレンジが外されており、興味深いテイクになってます。
13. Any Other Day (Studio Demo)
この曲はおそらく未発表曲でしょうか？スキャット入りのインスト小品です。
14. Silence & I (Early version; Eric Woolfson guide vocal)
世紀の名曲のこのバージョンもオーケストラを入れる前のアレンジです。
ウルフソンが練習に歌っている感じです。
15. The Naked Eye
今回のアニバーサリーシリーズ共通のボーナス楽曲で、
１０分にもおよぶアイ・イン・ザ・スカイ収録曲メドレーです。
16. Eye Pieces (Classical Naked Eye)
Naked Eyeの別テイクでしょうか。クラシカルなメドレーが８分近く聴かれます。
以上、ＡＰＰファンならボーナス曲目当てに買ってソンのない内容ですよ！！

EU盤初版(610 004-222)と比較しました。一聴すると「あれ？本当にリマスターしたの？」と拍子抜けしそうになるのですが、よく聴いていけば、細かい音を丹念に拾っていく、それから低域を少ししっかりさせる方向でリマスターされていることがわかります。それでも#5の中間部、オーケストラパートの迫力は格段に違いますが。アラン・パーソンズが一番手を加えたかったのはここだったのでしょうね。このアルバムの発表は1982年、奇しくもCD発表と同じ年でした。当時のCDも優秀録音盤と絶賛でした。裏を返せば、オリジナル発売の時点でCDに向けた音作りがある程度完成していた・・・ということでしょうか。

８２年発表の６作目。何と言ってもＡＰＰ史上最大の９５人編成のオーケストラを使用した５．が話題だが、ＡＰＰには珍しいストレートなロックンロール・ナンバーの６．や全米３位の大ヒットとなったタイトル曲の２．なども含み、彼らのアルバムとしては非常にインパクトがあり、かつ充実した内容になっている。
１．はキャメルに通じるマイナー・キーのインストであり、２．へメドレーで繋がる。その２．はマイルドな響きを持ったＡＰＰらしいメロディアスなモダン・ポップスの佳曲。捻ったメロディと爽やかなコーラス＆サウンドが融合した傑出した曲の一つだと思う。３．はデヴィッド・パットンが歌うパイロットを彷佛とさせるハイ・トーン・ヴォーカルを活かしたポップな曲。４．はクリス・レインボウが歌う、１０ｃｃをかなり意識したであろう、美しいバラード。ぶ厚いコーラスも素晴しい。５．も単なるクラシカルな曲ではなく、１０ｃｃを大袈裟なアレンジにしたかのような劇的な展開を見せる。６．は西海岸風の明るいロックンロール・ナンバー。イーグルス周辺のメンバーがやっても何ら違和感がない完成度の高い曲だと思う。ラストはあまりにも切なく、美しい壮大なバラードで締められる。
ＡＰＰとしてはかなりバラエティに富んだ内容になっており、また各々の曲がそれぞれ完成度が高く聞き応えがある。ある意味で野心作なのだろうが、うまくまとめた印象を受ける。ＡＰＰの懐の深さと職人技を満喫するのには最適であるとともに、ＡＰＰ全作品の中でも聞き終えた後の満足度が非常に高い、充実した作品だと思う。
