日本のクラシック音楽を切り開いた人物の一人であり、「赤とんぼ」などの作曲でも知られる、山田耕筰の作品集を収めたCDである。特筆すべきは、標題となっている、長唄交響曲「鶴亀」(1934)である。ライナーノートによると、

長唄交響曲「鶴亀」は、どのように出来ているのか。実は、その全部が耕筰の作曲ではない。長唄の部分は、1851年（嘉永４年）、つまり黒船来航の２年前に初演された、十代目杵屋六左右衛門作曲による名曲「鶴亀」そのままである。ならば、耕筰は何をしたのか。長唄「鶴亀」に、それと対位法的に協奏する、ハープを伴う２管編成のオーケストラのための音楽を付加したのである。長唄交響曲は、伝統的な長唄と耕筰作曲の新しい交響管絃楽用の音楽とを動じ演奏して成立するわけだ。

つまり、、、長唄および三味線などのバックに２管編成のオケがいて、曲としては基本的に全くの長唄なのだが、響きは長唄のそれとかなり異なり、日本音階と現代音楽風の響きを含む極めて複雑かつ異様な音楽空間を醸し出している。そう高額なCDではないので、現代音楽、音楽史、とくに日本の音楽史に興味があるひとは一度聴いてみると良いかもしれない。長唄交響曲「鶴亀」以外の２曲は、比較的普通である。☆５。
