すべてを備えた小さなボディ
   なんでも小さいのは良いこと。ただ、長さ約4センチ、15.5グラムの小さなボディに240曲を詰め込むとなると、「小さくて、良い」だけでは言い足らない。おまけに12時間 (2)も音楽を続けて聴けるとなると…。iPod shuffleはこの小さなボディに、おどろくほど多才な機能を備えている。

いつでもどこでも
   ポケットにクリップ。バッグにクリップ。どこでも好きなところにiPod shuffleをクリップ すれば、それだけで音楽を持ち歩く準備は完了。どこにつけても音飛びはない。クールなアルミニウム製のボディは、どんなファッションにもマッチする。ボリュームを上げて、さあ、出かけよう。

意外な選曲を楽しむ
   iPod shuffleで音楽を身につける前に、iTunesをダウンロード。もちろん無料。付属のDockにiPod shuffleを装着し、MacまたはWindows PCのUSBポートにつなぐだけで、あっという間にシンク完了。iTunesのライブラリが240曲以上になっても心配ない。iTunesのオートフィル機能を使えば、毎回意外な選曲でiPod shuffleに曲を転送してくれる。

コントローラ
   iPod shuffleは先行モデルに敬意を拝し、円形コントローラを引き続き採用している。これまでと同様、親指一本で操作できるエルゴノミック設計。再生と一時停止は中央のボタン、巻き戻し、スキップ、ボリューム調節は円の外側のボタンをクリックする。

ヘッドフォンジャック
   iPod shuffleのヘッドフォンジャックは、Dockとのコネクタにもなっている。iPodを逆さまにして付属のDockに設置し、USBでDockをMacまたはWindows PCに接続するだけで、簡単にシンクと充電ができる。コンピュータが使えない場所にいるときでも、別売りのUSBアダプタを使えば外出先で充電が可能。


クリップ
   頑丈なクリップがついたおかげで、iPod shuffleはどこにでも留められる。ジャケットやベルト、背中のリュックにも。iPod shuffleをどこにつけるかも、センスの見せ所。

バッテリー表示
   緑はフル、黄色は残りわずか、赤はほぼゼロを示する。最大12時間 (1)のバッテリー駆動時間が自慢のiPod shuffleなら、お出かけ中にバッテリーが切れる心配もない。

シャッフルスイッチ
   時には型からはずれてみる？シャッフルスイッチをオンに合わせれば、iPod shuffuleに入っている曲をランダムにミックスして楽しめる。また、スイッチを元にもどせば、iTunesで作ったプレイリストやアルバムの曲順通りに曲が再生される。

   (1) 容量を示す単位は1GB＝10億バイトですが、実際にフォーマットされた容量はそれ以下となります。記憶容量は、演奏時間4分の曲を128kbps AACエンコードした場合のファイルサイズを基準にしています。実際の容量は内容によって異なります。

    こんなに小型軽量タイプなのに音質は全然わるくありません。
    カバンがなくてもどこかにクリップするだけで身に付けているのを忘れてしまいそうなぐらいです。
    操作もごく単純で使いかっても非常によく、またiTuneとの互換もスムーズです。
    ただ安いせいか、空きも早く来そうですね。
    色は好みですが、オリジナルカラーのシルバーが色合わせに最適です。

    早速買ってきました。
    色はこのグリーンがキツくもなく目にも優しいし鮮やかだったので。
    iTuneでの管理も非常に楽でshuffleしてから取り込むか、好きな曲で一杯にしてshuffleを楽しむか選択できるから安心。
    しかし、実際家に帰ってみると本体の小ささにカルチャーショックをうけました。
    shuffleゆえに操作系も簡単だし、専用転送＆充電クレードルと付属ヘッドホンが同梱されてます。
    第二世代nanoのときもそうだったけど付属ヘッドホンは未開封。
    別に市販のヘッドホンに変えることでより高音質＆好みのスタイルで聴けるので。
    10000円を切る安さなので別にヘッドホンを買ってみてはいかがでしょう。

    現在、初代iPod・iPod MINI・第五世代iPod・iPod nano・iPod shuffle 1GB グリーンの5つを所有しています。いずれも現役ですが、どのiPodが一番音が良いか、を同じ曲を入れて試してみました。

    入れたのは
    クラシックからカルロス・クライバーの『魔弾の射手』より『Aufzug, Szene 1 Nr. 1 Introduktion: "Viktoria! Viktoria! der Meister soll lebe" / "Schau der Herr mich an als Ko¨nig!"』。
    ジャズ・フュージョンからはスティングの『Dream of the Blue Turtles』より『If You Love Somebody Set Them Free』。
    ロックからはベックの『Midnite Vultures』より『Get Real Paid』。

    で聴きくらべるとダントツでPod shuffle 1GBの音がいずれの分野も良かったです。念のためイヤフォンは第五世代iPodのものを共通して使用しました。これはおそらくですが他のiPodはディスク内で断片化が起こっているためではないか、と思いました。一応ご参考に。
