   映像が素晴らしいこの映画は、受賞歴のあるファンタジー作家ニール・ゲイマン『夢の狩人』の原作を、彼との共同作品が多いデイヴ・マッキーン（代表作『Cages』）とジム・ヘンソン(『ダーク・クリスタル』や『ラビリンス』など手の混んだファンタジーを手がけた）が制作したものである。『ラビリンス』と同様にこの『ミラーマスク』では、日常生活に不満を持つ少女をヒロインにしている。ステファニー・レオニダス演じるアーティスティックな少女ヘレナは、サーカス団員である両親に不満を持っていた。衝突した母親（ジーナ・マッキー）が病で寝込んだ時、ヘレナは自分が描いていた暗く不思議な世界に引き込まれる。そこで、彼女の現実世界での苦悩が明らかになる。ゲイマンとマッキーン監督はヘレナの世界を魅力的に描き出し、ヘンソン・カンパニーは、CGIで生き物に生命を与えた。ストーリーとしては不備な点もあるが、幻想的なファンタジーとしては最高で、最も難しいとされる比較的若い観客たちも魅了した。(Paul Gaita, Amazon.com)

私はあまりファンタジーとか好んで見るほうでもないのですが、これは面白かった！私はファンタジー素人ですのでこの表現はズレているかも知れませんが、“ダリの絵が動いているような摩訶不思議な世界”を堪能しました！ストーリーも単純ですのでその世界に入りこみやすいですし、それでいてきっちり伏線もはってあって映画としてもスリリングな出来になっています。ＣＧばっかりの映画って疲れるのですが、これは大歓迎！

この映像表現は見事です！どこをとっても デイブ・マッキーンの世界です。
美しく、時には不気味で、幻想的な世界に満ち満ちています。

それを支えるジム・ヘンソンカンパニーの表現力にも脱帽です。

主役の女の子も存在感がありこの映画にマッチしています。

ただ、ストーリーはありきたりなもので終わっています。私は脚本を書いたニール・ゲイマンの長年のファンですが、さすがにファンの贔屓目の立場から見ても最近のゲイマンはライターとして燃え尽きたとしか言いようがありません。

国内の某映画祭で作品を観ました。先ず映像の素晴らしさに感動し登場する摩訶不思議なキャラクターたちに魅了されストーリーにどんどん引き込まれていきました。ヒューマニズムも感じられ、ただのファンタジーでは無くメッセージ性を持った作品だと思いました。個人的にデイヴ・マッキーン氏のイラストが好きで随所に彼のイラストが見れるのも楽しいです。
