このアルバムはアナログでは二枚組だった事に習ってCDなら一枚に入る物をあえて二枚にしたのだと思います。それは
それで悪くないのですがこの白熱の演奏は一気通しで聴きたいと思います。マーカス・ミラーのメリハリのきいた
エレクトリック・ベースはそれ以前のマイルスのライブの混沌を見事に統率している印象があります。そしてマイルスが
どうしても吹かずにはいられない位にテンションを高めているのはマイク・スターンの鋼のようなソロではないでしょうか。
この挑発的な音に鼓舞されてマイルスは体調が悪いにもかかわらずがんがん吹きまくる。そんな印象があります。
惜しいのはマイルスのトランペットがワイヤレスのせいか雑音が多いこと。ワイヤードだったらもっと強烈な音に
なっていたと思います。いずれにせよカムバック時の歴史的録音です。

1981年7月5日のニューヨーク、アベリー・フィッシャー・ホールと1981年10月4日東京でのライヴ録音。『The Man With The Horn』で復活、次に発売されたのがこのライヴだった。日本でのマイルスのライヴというのは6年半ぶりのことで、渾沌に充ち満ちたジャズ・ファンクの中でエネルギーを完全燃焼したマイルスの復活に狂喜したもののだった。

やはり未だ完璧に体調復活とはいっていないが、ここまでマイルスを復活させた第一の功労者は何といっても、ここでもベースを弾いているマーカス・ミラーだと思う。この時20代後半だった彼はこの後もマイルスを全面的にアシストし続ける。その死までの最期の炎を完全燃焼させることができたのはマーカス・ミラーのおかげだったと言っても言い過ぎではないだろう。

『We Want Miles』って言うのはファンの気持ちそのままである。その炎はまた力を増し始めたのを感じることができるのがウレシイ。
