自分はこれまでオアシスのアルバムを１枚も持っていない（ブラーは全部持っている）、でも「リヴ・フォーエヴァー」と「ドント・ルック・バック・イン・アンガー」は90年代を代表する名曲だと思っている、そんな聴き手です。今回のベスト盤も実は自分で買ったのではなく、嫁さんが買ったのを聴かしてもらってるんですが…。

色んなところで選曲について賛否両論の今回のベスト盤ですが、私は逆に「ノエル賢い。」と思ってしまいました。何故なら、ベスト盤というものはファンにとってもレコード会社にとっても商品として非常に「オイシイ」ものだけれど、逆に必要以上に聴き手を「お腹いっぱい」にさせてしまう危険性があることをよく分かっているな、と思ったからです。

それこそ「スーパーソニック」から「レット・ゼア・ビー・ラヴ」までシングルのA面曲を全て順番に並べただけのベスト盤を出して、ファンとレコード会社を満足させるのは簡単なことだったでしょう。でもあえてそれをせず、かつ「ホワットエヴァー」や「コロンビア」のようにコアなファンならば絶対ベスト盤に入れて欲しいと願う楽曲も外す。そのことによって私のような新参者は『1st 借りてこようか』とか、「『ホワットエヴァー』だけiTunesでダウンロードしてみよっか」という風に逆に食指を刺激されるのです。そしてこのベスト盤をきっかけにもっとオアシスのことが知りたくなる、聴きたくなるという仕組みです。例えばビートルズの赤盤と青盤だけを聴き込んでビートルズを分かったつもりになる、「ノー・リプライ」も「アイム・オンリー・スリーピング」も「ゴールデン・スランバーズ」も聴いていないのに、といった現象を避けたいということではないでしょうか。

それに、こういった選曲でベスト盤を出すことによってノエル・ギャラガーは、「オアシスというバンドはお前らのものじゃねえ。俺たちのもんだ。」という当たり前の事実を私たちに突きつけてきているような気がします。これは「U2のベスト盤に『トゥー・ハーツ・ビート・アズ・ワン（名曲！）』がなんで入ってないんだよ〜」と文句を言いたくなるのとは全く次元の異なる、世界の本質の認識論の話だと感じます。

まあ、こだわりの強い名物オヤジの寿司屋で「おまかせ」を頂くような感じで聴けばいいんじゃないでしょうか。

この選曲でベスト盤と語ってしまうのはいかがなものかと。。。
「Stand by Me」も「Whatever」も「 Let There Be Love」も「Stop Crying Your Heart Out」も何も無い。
良い曲落とし過ぎよ。
タイアップがらみの曲なんか要らないの！
DVDだけが頼りです。

名曲、B面曲とバランスよく収録されており、そんな人にはオススメできる。
ただ、全てのアルバム、シングルをすでに手にしている以前からのファンにはツライ内容だ。
DVDの2つのライブ映像は広く出回っている上、ドキュメンタリーフィルムの断片映像(未発表曲が少し聴ける)も流出済み。貴重なのは字幕のついたインタビューのみか。おぉ、リアムがDon't Look〜を少し歌って(?)る。
