   自主制作映画の上映会などで好評を得てDVD化された、新海誠監督の自主制作によるSFラブストーリー・アニメーション。21世紀の半ば、国連宇宙軍のロボット・パイロットに選ばれ、宇宙へ飛び立っていった中学生の少女・美加子（武藤寿美）は、地球に残る同級生の昇（鈴木千尋）と携帯メールで彼女と連絡を取り合うが、距離が離れるにつれて互いのメールが届く時間も長くなっていく…。ピュアな恋愛とSF的な要素が奇妙なバランスでミックスしながら、不思議で独特の世界観を醸し出す。個人制作アニメとしての技術レベルも相当に高いが、それ以上に作り手の熱意そのものが作品の質に大いに貢献しているともいえよう。これから映像制作に挑もうとしている若い世代にも希望を与えてくれるであろう作品である。（増當竜也）

｢彼女と彼女の猫｣に続き､新海誠が放った2作目のフルデシタル同人アニメ作品です｡
個人製作のため､ややキャラクターデザインのぎこちなさは感じられるものの､
ほぼ一人(！)で製作したその光の鮮やかと雄大さで魅せる見事な美術描写､
美しい楽曲で切ないラブストーリーを高次元に仕上げており仰天させられます｡

始まりもなく､終わりもない｡
ただ大事に二人の少年､少女の絆の断片を切り取ったように感じられました｡
また完全に完結した物語ではないため､これで終わり？と感じる人もいるかもしれません｡
宇宙空間と地球上での時間経過の流れが異なるというSF要素を加味して､
徐々に離れていく携帯メールの届く時間と､それでも離れない二人の心の距離を
対極的に描き出した発想が実に巧い｡近くにいても心が離れていく貧しさに比べれば
これは幸福？でもやっぱり不幸なの？と様々な捉え方や解釈ができる作品です｡

とにもかくにも､同人作品としては他の追従を許さない比類なき完成度に圧倒されます｡
ある意味これほどの出来栄えだと他の作家の皆さんの士気を削いでしまうかもしれません｡
やればできる！というのも限度がありますよ｡ホント､参りました｡

この作品は、過去に類を見ない作品だと思います。ほとんどが、新海さんの自主製作ですからねぇ。
宇宙と地上に引き裂かれた恋人みたい。なんとも素晴らしいフレーズですね！

新海誠がひとりで作り上げてきたこと以上に鮮烈な印象。
物語の要となる「ウラシマ効果」はSF小説の古典、ジョー・ホールドマン「終りなき戦い」から着想を得ているようですが、くだんとは別の展開として受け入れられます。
作画、物語のみならずCG、作画演出と多岐にわたり秀でた作りです。
観てわかったことですが、これ以後、集団で作り上げるアニメは、この作品を無視できない状態であることに気がつきます。
